Spotify Celebrates Women in the Music Business in Australia
Allies: Bring One, Be One, Meet Many. That was the theme of the inclusive Spotify gathering held on Monday, November 25, to celebrate women in the Australian music business.
Hosted ahead of the ARIA Music Awards in Australia (a pivotal industry and cultural moment for the country), the event was an opportunity to bring together and celebrate the achievements of women in music, as well as recognize important support from their allies.
While addressing the crowd in Sydney at the Botanical Garden, Australia’s Managing Director Karen Lawson detailed the need to drive gender parity in music and acknowledged the importance of stepping up around diversity, inclusion, and social impact.
“We have moments in our life where we need to back ourselves,” said Lawson. “We recognize that we have an opportunity to drive awareness and support artists beyond just playlisting.”
With a keynote by media personality and proud Gamilaroi Gomeroi woman, Brooke Boney, an all-female DJ set by Ebony Boadu, and live performances by Tkay Maidza and Emalia, the room was filled with positive, powerful energy. It was an incredibly special night, bringing together 200 of Australia’s emerging and established music industry talent.
