How Reserved by Spotify Works: A Step-by-Step Guide

A golden ticket appearing in front of a red, curtain-like backgorund

Big news for all the fans who know every lyric and never miss a show: Reserved by Spotify is here to help you get tickets.

Reserved goes live today in the U.S. for eligible Spotify Premium subscribers (ages 18+). Reserved by Spotify launches in partnership with Live Nation, and powered by Ticketmaster, starting with a slate of exciting artist tours this week and expanding from there.

Here’s how it works.

Who gets an offer

With Reserved, we identify an artist’s most dedicated fans and hold two tour tickets for them to purchase before the general sale goes live. Eligibility is based on a wide range of signals like streams, saves, and shares, as well as location, to make sure offers reach fans who are likely to attend.

We don’t share every detail of how it works to avoid encouraging anyone to engage strategically rather than genuinely. But what we can say is that Reserved is designed to reward active fan engagement.

Step 1: You get the heads-up.

When you’re eligible, your Reserved offer will be waiting for you right on your Spotify Home screen. We’ll notify you by email, push notification, and in “Your Updates.” To make sure you don’t miss it, keep your notifications turned on for live concerts and events, keep your app updated, and set your location in your Live Events Feed.

You can also find your offer across various places in the app, including:

    • Search
    • The artist’s page
    • Your Live Events Feed
    • The Now Playing view

Tap the offer to see available tour dates, when your Reserved window will open, and to set a reminder so you don’t miss it.

Step 2: Your Reserved window opens. Claim your tickets.

When your Reserved window opens, tap “Buy now” to choose up to two tickets for a Reserved-eligible date on the tour.

Your window is typically around a day, with two tickets to the tour held for you to purchase at any point throughout that time. That said, to get the specific date, location, and seats you prefer, we recommend purchasing as soon as you know which show you want to attend.

We designed Reserved to give you options, so you can buy tickets for any eligible date on the tour, not just the show closest to you. Reserved allocations include a range of seating and prices, and specific availability varies by show.

Step 3: Complete your purchase.

Once you’ve selected your tickets, you’ll be directed to Ticketmaster to complete checkout. If prompted, connect your Spotify account to Ticketmaster so we can verify your Reserved access and unlock your tickets. Choose up to two seats, add your payment info, and confirm.

For some high-demand shows, you may enter a queue before reaching the ticket selection page. No matter what, two tickets on the tour will be held for you throughout your entire on-sale window. Each show has its own availability, so if you reach the end of a queue and your preferred seats are sold out, you’ll still have the opportunity to purchase other tickets.

Pro tip: Connect your Spotify account to Ticketmaster ahead of time for faster checkout.

After the window closes

Unclaimed Reserved tickets become available to the next most dedicated eligible fans. We’ll notify them the same way, and tickets are available while supplies last.

A few things to keep in mind

Reserved is available for select artists and tours for Spotify Premium subscribers who are 18 or older. Window lengths, ticket availability, and eligible dates vary by campaign.

With Reserved, Spotify is continuing its investment in live music while creating a new way to connect artists with their biggest fans.

Spotify Inks a New Partnership With Bloomsbury To Offer A Greater Assortment of Audiobooks

Our library continues to grow. In 2022, we announced the addition of audiobooks to Spotify, and since then we’ve worked with publishers around the world to deliver more titles to our digital shelves. Today marks another exciting chapter for audiobook lovers thanks to a new partnership with Bloomsbury, one of the largest publishers in the U.K.

“As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Audiobooks in Premium, there’s no better way to build on our momentum than with the addition of Bloomsbury’s beloved library,” said Duncan Bruce, Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing at Spotify. “This partnership allows us to expand our author lineup and give listeners an even wider array of titles to enjoy, taking us another step forward in our goal of reimagining the audiobook experience.”

Spotify users will have access to more than 1,000 new titles from Bloomsbury’s award-winning catalog. It includes an array of stellar titles from acclaimed authors including Sarah J. Maas, William Dalrymple, Alan Moore, Madeline Miller, Dan Jones, Samantha Shannon, and Ann Patchett, all paired with narrations from top-tier talent such as Meryl Streep, Emilia Clarke, Adjoa Andoh, and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Listeners can lose themselves in epic, sweeping fantasies for adults, like Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, award winners such as Cuddy by Benjamin Myers (which won the Goldsmith’s prize in 2023), and the IPG Audiobook of the Year, Ghosts, read by the cast of the show. Listeners will also find thrilling adventures for kids, such as Katherine Rundells Children’s Book of the Year, Impossible Creatures, read by Sam West. For lovers of nonfiction, Bloomsbury has works written and read by many distinguished historians, including Peter Frankopan, William Dalrymple, Dan Jones, and the recent number-one bestselling title, Want, Submitted by Anonymous, Collected by Gillian Anderson.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Spotify to bring our catalog of audiobooks to even more listeners. We are passionate about bringing the creative talents of our authors and narrators to as many listeners as possible, through our mission to inform, educate, entertain, and inspire readers of all ages and backgrounds. We feel confident that this partnership will help to introduce a whole new generation of listeners to audiobooks for years to come,” said Sam Halstead, Director of Audio at Bloomsbury.

The addition of this catalog continues our commitment to introducing the audiobook format to new listeners while also expanding opportunities and creating an additional revenue stream for the industry. Since launching audiobooks, Spotify has paid hundreds of millions of dollars to publishers on an annualized basis. Spotify’s aim is to be the best place for authors and publishers to get their books heard, and to bring great audio stories to as many people as possible. With a global audience of more than 615 million listeners, Spotify provides a new platform for authors and rights holders to share their content.

There’s no experience quite like getting lost in an audiobook, and we’re thrilled to continue bringing more options and varieties to Spotify. Head to Spotify to discover your next great “read.”
