Introducing a Smarter, Smoother Experience for Tablets

Adaptive Tablet Layout screens

At Spotify, we want your experience to feel intuitive and personal across every moment of the day. Whether you’re streaming your favorite playlist while you work or browsing new recommendations on the go, Spotify should feel familiar and easy to use. With tablets—which are often used on the sofa or at a kitchen counter and offer more screen space to browse—we saw an opportunity to give the Spotify experience a little refresh.

Today we’re introducing a new app experience tailored for your tablet, designed to make listening, watching, and discovery feel more natural on larger screens.

A smarter, more responsive design

The refreshed tablet layout, available on iOS and Android devices, is designed to create a more seamless experience across screens where you use Spotify. Rather than simply scaling up mobile components, we designed the tablet experience to take advantage of the extra space, so you can browse and discover new favorites right alongside what you’re already playing. In addition, improvements we make to mobile can reach tablet users faster.

“From TV to desktop to the car, we’ve been designing Spotify to feel native to each screenand now we’re bringing that same experience to tablets,” said Nicole Burrow, Head of Design, Consumer Experience, Spotify. “Tablets give you more room to explore, so we designed it to let you browse and discover new favorites alongside what’s already playing. The goal was simple: Wherever you open Spotify, it should feel unmistakably like Spotify.”

What’s new

    • Adaptive orientation: The interface now reconfigures—not just resizes—as you switch between portrait and landscape, so it feels balanced and intentional in both views.
    • A collapsible sidebar: The new sidebar lets you browse and discover alongside your playback, or expands for deeper focus. It also includes interactive, scrollable content so you can explore without leaving what’s playing.
    • An enhanced video experience: The “Switch to Video” toggle is now front and center, making it simpler to move into a more immersive viewing experience.
    • Parallel browsing: Keep music or video playing on one side of the screen while you explore your library or recommendations on the other.
    • A familiar feel: The core navigation stays the same, so the experience still feels like a natural extension of the mobile app. The bottom navigation bar keeps your main pages within easy reach, while the collapsible side drawer gives you quick access to your profile and settings.

With this update, your tablet becomes an even better place to discover music, podcasts, audiobooks, and video. It’s another step toward a more unified Spotify experience, one that can keep evolving across the devices you use today and the ones you’ll use tomorrow.

Are You Wrapped-Ready? First Make Sure Your Spotify App Is Up-to-Date

Wrapped is almost here and Spotify is starting to drop hints at what this year’s campaign is all about: the fans. To get ready for the big reveal, Spotify is uniquely positioning its logo to capture the essence of 2024’s biggest musical moments during Wrapped.

And one of the keys to getting the best Wrapped experience is making sure your Spotify app is up-to-date. If your phone isn’t set to automatically update the app and you haven’t manually updated it in a while, you may be missing out on some pretty great features.

An up-to-date app means you’re getting a fully optimized Wrapped experience. When the time comes for the big reveal of your personalized 2024 listening trends, you want to be ready. You’ll also be able to easily share your unique finds or fun tidbits from your yearlong listening with friends on social media.

There are reasons beyond Wrapped why it’s wise to update your Spotify app. With the latest version of Spotify on hand, you’ll have access to new features and enhanced experiences that our teams work hard to roll out.

And finally, Spotify has many integrations across other apps, like TikTok and Instagram. To make your experience between the apps seamless, it’s important that you’re using the latest versions.

How to update your app

Updating your app is easy:

  1. Visit the Apple App Store if you have an iPhone or the Google Play Store if you have an Android.
  2. Search and find your Spotify app.
  3. Once it appears, you will see whether you have the latest version or the option to hit the “Update” button.
  4. Hit “Update” and you’re all set.

Now’s the time. Check out your Spotify app and make sure it’s up-to-date. Don’t worry, we will wait.

Spotify’s What’s New Feed Means You’ll Never Miss the Latest Releases From the Shows and Artists You Follow

On Spotify, every day brings the chance to discover something new—whether that’s an up-and-coming artist in your Discover Weekly or a podcast that’s piqued your interest—or tune into your tried-and-true favorites. As shared at Stream On in February, there are 50,000+ hours of content uploaded to Spotify every day.* So we know it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of the latest releases from your favorite creators. That’s why today we’re launching another way to discover new music and podcasts you love with What’s New, a feed that gathers all the new releases from the artists and shows you follow on Spotify.

What’s New makes it easier than ever to catch all the latest songs and episodes from the creators you follow. Plus, it’s even updated in real time, so you know you’ll get to listen to new content just as it’s released.

Easily access your What’s New feed by clicking the new bell icon (?), located at the top of the Home tab on your phone. A blue dot indicator on the bell icon will let you know at a glance if new songs or episodes have been released since your last visit. What’s New also includes filters that allow you to sort for new music releases or new podcast and show episodes, helping you find what you’re looking for more quickly.

Looking to add more content to your What’s New feed? Simply head over to your favorite artist and show pages and tap “Follow” in order to have their new releases appear in your What’s New feed over time.

What’s New is rolling out to all users globally on iOS and Android over the coming weeks. Soon, you’ll never miss a new release again.

Spotify’s ‘Your Library’ Refresh: What You Need to Know

Starting today, we’re introducing a new version of Your Library to Premium users that mixes form with function. Everything about the reimagined Library is designed to get you to the content you want faster. It also makes getting started and staying up-to-date with podcasts on Spotify a seamless, personalized experience.

Right away, you’ll notice that Your Library is streamlined, and all it takes is a tap or swipe to toggle between new tabs for Podcasts and Music. Under each of those sections, you’ll see how quickly you can control and access the content you want.

Check out the video below to learn more, or scroll down for more in-depth explorations of the new Podcast and Music tabs.

Podcasts

Put simply, the new design gives you more control over your podcast listening experience, and quickly helps you discover new shows and episodes. You can manage your podcasts in three distinct sections: Episodes, Downloads, and Shows.

  • Episodes: The Episodes tab allows you to quickly find new episodes or resume podcasts you’re listening to, so picking up where you left off is a snap. And further down the list you’ll find newly released episodes of all the podcasts you follow. So, for example, the episode of The Rewind with Guy Raz that you paused yesterday will appear up top, followed by the new episode of Jemele Hill is Unbothered you’d been waiting for.
  • Downloads: This tab serves as your repository for the podcast episodes you’ve downloaded—so you can listen even when you’re offline.
  • Shows: The new Shows tab allows you to quickly manage the podcasts you follow and explore their past episodes. The higher up a podcast appears on your list in this section, the more recently a new episode became available.

Music

First things first: All your music is still here. And we’ve made finding and accessing the content you want even faster. A tap on the Music tab automatically drops you into your Playlists section, and the artists you follow and albums you’ve saved are just a swipe away. Pull down to quickly search, sort, and filter in any way you’d like.

  • Playlists: All the playlists you’ve previously liked or made are here, plus a new one: Liked Songs. Every time you <3 a song it’s added to this playlist, and you can now quickly download all its content at once for offline listening. When you’re offline, we’ll also automatically sort your playlists to show you the ones you have downloaded and available.
  • Artists: This section is just what it sounds like: a true representation of the artists you follow. To add an artist to this section, tap the “follow” button on the artist’s page.
  • Albums: If you tap the heart icon on any album, you’ll find it’s saved to this section for quick listening in the future. To save all the songs to your Liked Songs playlist, tap the “…” menu and select “Like all songs.”

From podcasts to music, the refreshed Spotify will help you manage and access all your audio content in a more personalized, streamlined manner.
