Revisit 2024 With Some of Your Favorite Podcasts From The Ringer

As the year draws to a close, Spotify’s The Ringer is celebrating the best of 2024 with an exciting lineup of retrospective podcast episodes. This December, listeners can look back at the year’s standout moments across movies, TV, music, sports, and pop culture.

“2024 has been a landmark year for storytelling and analysis at The Ringer,” said Geoff Chow, Head of Podcast Studios and Managing Director for The Ringer. “Our podcasts have captured the highs, lows, and everything in between, across sports, culture, and entertainment. These episodes celebrate the moments that brought us all together and dive deeper into the conversations that defined the year.”

Episode: “The Top Five Movies of 2024”

Sean Fennessey is joined by Chris Ryan and Adam Nayman to share their top five movies of 2024: a mix of widely seen blockbusters, smaller art-house movies, big swings from emergent auteurs, and more.

Episode: “The Top 10 Underseen Movies of 2024. Plus: James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd on ‘The Terminator’ at 40!”

Sean remarks on the release of the Oscars shortlists in below-the-line categories, international features, and documentary features, before discussing his five most underseen movies of 2024. Then, he’s joined by a rotating cast of Ringer colleagues to discuss each of their favorite underseen movies of the year.

Podcast: The Watch

Episode: “The Top 10 TV Shows of 2024” 

Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald reflect on the state of television in 2024. Then, they rank their top 10 shows of the year, including favorites like 3 Body Problem, Black Doves, English Teacher, and more.

Episode: “The Best TV Episode of 2024”

Chris and Andy talk about some of their runners-up for best TV episode of the year, and why they ultimately chose Shogun Episode 9, “Crimson Sky,” as the winner. Then, they are joined by show creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, writer Caillin Puente, and lead actress Anna Sawai to talk about how making this episode was less about planning and more about immersing themselves in the story as they made the season.

Spotify Takes to the Skies With Delta For an Exclusive In-Flight Audio Experience

You are now free to roam about the cabin—and get the music and podcasts you love at 30,000 feet. Beginning today, we’re taking off in a new partnership with Delta in which Spotify will take over the “audio” section of Delta’s in-flight seatback entertainment. This means passengers on Delta flights that are equipped with seatback entertainment globally can now enjoy their favorite audio content exclusively in-flight on Delta Studio. 

There are currently more than 20 million flight-related user-generated playlists globally on Spotify, and this new partnership is making it even easier for listeners to tap into their favorite audio content while flying.  

This in-flight content is licensed directly by Delta and will be free for all passengers. It includes specially curated versions of Spotify’s most popular playlists—in the form of mixtapes curated by Spotify’s editorial experts—along with 42 select podcast series to choose from. 

These include popular playlists Mood Booster, Are & Be, Hot Country, mint, Today’s Top Hits, Relax & Unwind, RapCaviar, and Ultimate Indie, with Rock This, Roots Rising, and ¡Viva Latino! to come in the October refresh, as well as episodes from podcasts such as Crime Junkie, Science Vs, StartUp, The Dave Chang Show, The Hottest Take, The Journal, and more. 

Passengers will now be able to discover new music and podcasts during their journeys by accessing the “audio” section of Delta’s seatback in-flight entertainment system. The content will be updated regularly, so there’s something for everyone—even frequent flyers.

The Ringer Podcast Network and Majordomo Media Serve Up ‘Recipe Club’ With David Chang and Chris Ying

Cooking shows have long served up entertainment and rumbling stomachs, and now culinary podcasts are following suit, with something all new simmering onto Spotify on November 17. The Ringer Podcast Network and Majordomo Media are taking the lid off Recipe Club, an all-new podcast series from David Chang. It comes on the heels of the chef-restaurateur, author, and television host/producer’s first successful podcast, The Dave Chang Show.

In the new weekly show, co-hosts David Chang and Chris Ying, plus a rotating featured guest, will present different recipes for well-known dishes from somewhere across the culinary universe. All three hosts will cook the dishes, then give their unfiltered critiques and debate which recipe submission was the strongest. Get ready for moments like Chang, Ying, and acclaimed food writer Priya Krishna arguing over the merits of each cook’s respective method for making chicken parmesan or BLTs. The first four episodes of Recipe Club will feature popular holiday recipes for turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and roast pork. 

The idea for the new podcast, initially piloted as a segment on select episodes of The Dave Chang Show, was an instant success. Both shows come out of Majordomo Media, Chang, Ying, Christopher Chen, and Dave O’Connor’s production company, which creates award-winning television shows, podcasts, books, and digital media that celebrate food as a pathway to better connecting with others.

“The Recipe Club sprang from the productive working relationship we have with The Ringer and Spotify,” said Dave O’Connor, co-CEO of Majordomo Media. “They’ve been incredibly supportive of our efforts to experiment and try things out on The Dave Chang Show, and Recipe Club is a perfect example of the creative work our partnership can yield. The Ringer, launched by Bill Simmons in 2016 and acquired by Spotify in 2020, is a website, podcast network, and scripted and nonscripted video production house creating an innovative blend of sports, pop culture, politics, and tech content.
