French-language content is reaching listeners on Spotify like never before. In 2025, more than 148 million listeners worldwide outside of historically francophone markets regularly listened to French-language content on Spotify, a clear sign that the francophonie has become a global cultural force.

“One in six users worldwide listens to French-language content on Spotify—without living in a French-speaking country,” said Antoine Monin, Managing Director for France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. “This isn’t just a trend; it’s an unprecedented movement.”

Music at the center

Music is still leading the way. French-language tracks continue to travel far beyond their home markets, with artists Stromae, Indila, GIMS, Aya Nakamura, and Patrick Watson popping up on playlists worldwide. At the same time, a new generation—including TRIANGLE DES BERMUDES, Danilo, and R2—is helping push French music in new directions.

Of course, fans at home are also pressing play. In 2025, French artists accounted for the majority of tracks in the Daily Top 50 France, showing both the depth of the local market and the ongoing evolution of French music.

Francophone content is expanding on the momentum

The story doesn’t stop with songs. French-language podcasts like LEGEND, L’After Foot, L’Heure du Monde, InnerFrench, and Easy French are drawing listeners across borders.

Meanwhile, French-language audiobooks have already accumulated hundreds of thousands of hours of listening outside francophone markets in 2025. From classics like Le Petit Prince to contemporary titles, French-language stories are connecting with audiences across culture.

Growth is building everywhere

What stands out is how broad the audience has become. The biggest non-francophone markets for French-language music remain Germany, the U.S., the Netherlands, the U.K., and Spain. But some of the strongest growth is now coming from emerging markets, including India, Egypt, and Indonesia, where listening has surged dramatically in recent years.

Francophone Africa is also central to this story. Artists from Abidjan, Bamako, and more continue to shape the global export of this music. The top-streamed artists, including Magic System, Himra, and Tiken Jah Fakoly, are blending local traditions with contemporary sounds that resonate far beyond their home countries.

Over in Quebec, nearly half of listeners regularly stream music, podcasts, or audiobooks in French, while Canadians discovered francophone content more than 720 million times on Spotify in 2025.

It’s clear: French-language content is no longer confined by geography. It is being discovered, shared, and celebrated around the world.
