How to Use Our Taste Profile Feature to Shape Your Spotify Homepage

Spotify has always been built around your taste, and now we’re bringing our latest advances in personalization to more listeners. Following initial testing in New Zealand earlier this year, we’re rolling out Taste Profile (Beta) to Premium listeners ages 18 and older in the U.S.

Taste Profile gives you more control over your recommendations, whether you want to explore beyond your usual interests or fine-tune what you already love. For the first time, you can see Spotify’s brief interpretation of your taste across music, podcasts, and audiobooks. But Taste Profile isn’t just about getting a sense for how Spotify understands your interests—you’ll also be able to directly shape what gets recommended next on your Home feed. Your notes act as gentle guidance, steering your Home feed toward music, podcasts, and audiobooks you’ll be excited to discover and away from content that no longer fits your taste.

Here are three easy ways to shape your Taste Profile:

    • Explore a new music genre or era: Tell Spotify what you’re curious about, whether it’s ’90s alt-rock, modern indie pop, or something completely new. Taste Profile will use that input to shape recommendations in your Home feed.
    • Shape what you see: Looking for energizing music to start your day? Tell Spotify what fits your life right now, and your Home feed will start adapting to match. Tell Spotify what you want more of. Tell it what you’re done with. Home follows your lead.
    • Get more of the podcasts and audiobooks you love: Tell Spotify what topics interest you—like tech, history, or art—and Home will start surfacing more related podcasts and audiobooks.

How to view and adjust your Taste Profile

If you’re a Premium listener age 18 or older in the U.S. or New Zealand, you can access your Taste Profile in the Spotify mobile app:

    1. Tap your profile picture and select Taste Profile.
    2. Explore how Spotify understands your taste across music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
    3. Under Tell us more, enter what you’d like to adjust and tap to send your message.

Changes typically appear within a few hours and you can edit or delete your notes whenever you want. You can leave your Taste Profile as is and enjoy Spotify as usual, or update it whenever your interests, tastes, or listening goals change.

Taste Profile builds on Spotify’s momentum in giving listeners more control over the recommendations they receive. We’ve seen strong engagement with features like Exclude from Taste Profile, which lets listeners exclude a specific track or playlist from their recommendations, and more recently, the ability for parents to keep kids and family music from influencing their algorithm.

Reclaim Your Wrapped: You Can Now Control Whether Kids and Family Music Shapes Your Recommendations

Parents love using Spotify to play music for their families. But parents don’t always share the same taste as their young children—and playing music for your kids shouldn’t have to affect your own recommendations. (If your Wrapped is full of the singing princesses you played for the family, you know what we’re talking about.)

Starting today, we’re rolling out a new toggle in your settings that lets you exclude kids and family music from your taste profile, so those streams no longer shape your recommendations. This includes, for example, the songs you play on repeat from your kids’ favorite animated movies, theme songs from family TV shows, nursery rhymes, and more.

When you turn this setting off, you can still search for, listen to, and build playlists of kids and family music, but those streams won’t affect what Spotify suggests for you. That means experiences like Discover Weekly, Daily Mix, and Wrapped more accurately reflect your taste. And yes, it applies retroactively, so kids music you’ve already listened to won’t count toward your Wrapped top song or artist, for example.

This update is the latest step in our ongoing efforts to give parents and guardians more control over how they and their kids listen. It builds on our existing tools, like the ability to exclude specific tracks or playlists from your taste profile, and works hand-in-hand with our recently expanded managed accounts for young listeners.

Here’s a quick look at how these features work together:

    • The new toggle is a one-tap feature rolling out globally on mobile to Free and Premium users. It’s set to include kids and family music in your taste profile by default, but you can turn it off anytime. Doing so quickly removes the influence of listening to kids and family music on your recommendations, keeping them focused on your taste. So you can play kid-friendly tunes when your children are around, like on a road trip or at bedtime, without letting those songs shape what you hear next.
    • Managed accounts give listeners 13 and under (or the region-equivalent age) a space to discover music on their own, with parental controls that can be adjusted as they grow. Available to parents and guardians on any plan in many countries, managed accounts give kids their own music library and year-end Wrapped experience.
