Spotify Launches the Amplifika Creators Initiative to Empower Black Podcasters in Brazil

In 2021, Spotify launched Amplifika in Brazil as a dedicated program to foster the growth of Black artists and support new voices in music. Through a hub on Spotify, Spotify Singles, educational events, and special collaborations, the program has supported the careers of key figures in the Brazilian music scene including Duquesa, Mc Kadu, Milthinho, Cryzin, Maru2D, and Sued Nunes.

Now we’re building on this legacy. At Spotify, we believe that every creator should have the chance to share their story, and we’re focused on making that possible with the right tools and support. That’s why we’re expanding the program with Amplifika Creators, a new initiative designed to empower the next generation of Black podcasters in Brazil.

A studio—and then some

At the heart of Amplifika Creators is a new podcast studio at Embaixada Preta in São Paulo. Developed in partnership with Feira Preta, an organization that supports Black culture and entrepreneurship in Latin America, this space offers free access to professional-grade audio and video equipment for emerging Black creators, with microphones and headphones donated by Shure.

But the technology is only the beginning. This initiative also includes a mentorship program with established creators like Sofi Oliveira (Colo de amiga por @sofidisse) and Guto Barbosa (Don Podcast); a tailored newsletter with best practices for production and growth; and ongoing support to help build a more inclusive podcasting ecosystem from the ground up.

“Today, video is one of the main entry points for discovering podcasts in Brazil—and Spotify is committed to increasing the presence of Black creators in this space, ensuring they have both the technical resources and visibility they deserve,” said Camila Justo, Spotify’s Head of Podcast in Brazil. “Amplifika Creators is a response to this, offering professional structure and continuous support to transform good ideas into real impact.”

Adriana Barbosa, founder and CEO of the Feira Preta Institute, echoed this sentiment. “It’s not just about recording, it’s about belonging,” she said. “This studio at Embaixada Preta is a territory of creativity, expression, memory, and future-building. Here, technology meets collective affection, and the result is important stories being told by those who live and transform the present.”

Continued commitment

Amplifika Creators joins our portfolio of equity-driven programs including EQUAL and GLOW in music, and Sound Up and our Seu Espaço initiative in podcasting. Seu Espaço is a fully equipped podcast studio in São Paulo that offers free access and professional-grade resources to underrepresented creators. Together, these global initiatives are central to our mission of amplifying diverse creators with more-inclusive narratives. Since 2018, Sound Up has supported creators in more than 12 countries, including Brazil, helping to launch impactful shows like Pavulagem – Contos da Floresta, ZUMBIR, and Calunguinha.

By providing tools, visibility, and a network of support, we’re working to ensure that new voices not only get heard but have the opportunity to thrive.

How Spotify Continues To Supercharge Brazil’s Music Industry

Brazil’s music industry is in the midst of a historic transformation—and Spotify continues to help illuminate the path. Our most recent Loud & Clear report, which offers a transparent and data-rich snapshot of the streaming economy’s powerful role in fueling the music industry’s record-breaking growth, shows that Spotify paid out over $10 billion to the music industry—more than any single company ever has in one year—while contributing to a global subscriber base that now exceeds 500 million. 

But how does that translate to Brazil, where Spotify has been streaming since 2014?

In 2024 alone, Brazilian artists generated over BRL 1.6 billion in royalties from Spotify—an incredible 31% jump from the previous year, and more than double their 2021 earnings. This growth outpaces the entire Brazilian music market, the ninth largest in the world, showing how Spotify is fueling real momentum for local creators. Even more impressive: Over 60% of the royalties generated in Brazil stayed local, and Brazilian rights-holders also made up 84% of the country’s Daily Top 50 tracks.

“Royalties generated on Spotify for Brazilian artists are rising faster than Brazil’s music market as a whole. Our Loud & Clear report lays those gains out in black and white, while Spotify for Artists lets every creator see their own performance in real time. Together, that transparency gives musicians the confidence to turn momentum into the next single, a bigger tour, or an ambitious new project,” says Carolina Alzuguir, Head of Music at Spotify Brazil.

Impact that reaches far beyond hits and charts

The success of Brazilian music and artists comes, in part, from strong, consistent engagement with fans—proving that long-term growth beats fleeting virality. Spotify’s freemium model, with its ad-supported and Premium tiers, has helped convert casual listeners into lifelong fans in a country where piracy once dominated. 

The results speak for themselves: More than 25 million hours of Brazilian music are streamed within the country and across the globe every day, and over 815 million user playlists feature Brazilian artists. Music in Portuguese is booming too, with royalties from these tracks growing 20% year over year, and more than doubling since 2021.

Partners in progress 

Tools like Spotify for Artists and Loud & Clear equip creators with the insights they need to succeed. Brazilian music is now more global, diverse, and influential than ever. For example, female Brazilian artists—like MC STER, Anitta, and Bibi Babydoll—are making historic gains, with their international streams rising 51% in 2024 alone. Meanwhile, nearly 11.8 billion first-time discoveries of Brazilian artists took place this year, a year-over-year increase of 19%, connecting these artists with fans around the world—from Mexico and the U.S. to Germany and Spain.

By closing historical gaps and amplifying underrepresented voices, Spotify is building a more inclusive and equitable global music economy—where any artist, anywhere, can thrive on their own terms.

“Before the paycheck, there’s discovery. Last year, Brazilian songs sparked billions of first-time listens and showed up in hundreds of millions of playlists on Spotify. Artists watch that rise live in Spotify for Artists, greet new listeners right away, and turn first plays into loyal fans. That feedback loop transforms curiosity into community, and community is what powers a career,” said Carolina.

Join Top Brazilian Artists for a Historic Concert Dedicated to the Late Icon Marília Mendonça

As the most-listened-to Brazilian artist ever on Spotify, and the first to reach 10 billion streams, the late Marília Mendonça is a revered figure across the nation. Known as the “queen of suffering” for her soulful brand of música sertaneja—a popular genre of Brazilian country music—her powerful voice and emotional storytelling resonated deeply with millions of listeners and ushered in a new era for women artists in Brazil. But her reign was tragically cut short in 2021 when she died in a plane crash at the age of 26.

To honor her legacy, Spotify is bringing together thousands of fans and some of the country’s biggest stars for “This Is Marília Mendonça,” our biggest concert event to date worldwide. On October 5, Alok, Jão, LUDMILLA, Luísa Sonza, Luiza Martins, Murilo Huff, Péricles, Xamã, Yasmin Santos, Tierry, Luan Pereira, and Marcos & Belutti will take the stage at São Paulo’s Allianz Parque stadium to celebrate the beloved singer-songwriter and perform her music. The show will be open to the public, and fans who want to experience this special performance can register here to receive a notification when tickets go on sale August 6.
