Since launching in 1984, the MTV Video Music Awards have helped establish the music video as an art form: artist-defining, boundary-breaking, trend-setting, culture-defining. The awards show is also synonymous with legendary performances that bring those videos to life. This year, Spotify is partnering with Paramount as the official music and video partner of the 2026 MTV VMAs, and for the first time, Spotify will give fans access to VMA video content directly on-platform, bringing together decades of iconic performances alongside content around this year’s nominees and select performances from the 2026 VMAs.
A new dedicated VMA destination on Spotify will bring together indelible moments from the VMA archives—including from icons like Madonna (“Like a Virgin,” 1984), Cardi B (“Bodak Yellow,” 2017), and Nirvana (“Lithium,” 1992)—with select 2026 performance content joining after the broadcast.
And this year’s show is set to be a big one, with—yes—Madonna opening the show this weekend, marking her first performance at the VMAs in more than two decades. Fans will be able to revisit some of the moments that helped solidify Madonna as a VMAs icon.
Leading into Sunday’s show, fans can dive deeper through the official MTV VMAs video playlist, editorially curated nominee highlights, a Nirvana Video Vanguard 2026 hub, curation of previous podcast conversations with this year’s nominees, and more. On desktop, web, and TV, fans can explore a central hub housing all VMA video content in one place, while on mobile, the experience includes expanded editorial commentary and personalized discovery.
“The VMAs have celebrated the music video as an art form for more than 40 years, and we’re excited to bring that legacy to Spotify. Fans already come to Spotify every day to listen to their favorite artists and increasingly to watch them, too, so bringing the VMA experience to the platform feels really natural,” said Sarah Patellos, Head of Spotify Music Studios. “It’s another way for fans to connect with the artists and music they love.”
Whether you’re looking for a longtime favorite or digging deeper into your next musical obsession, Spotify is your new home for all things VMAs.
Explore the VMA curated collection on Spotify starting September 24, and tune into the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on September 27.
