Spotify and Walmart+ Team Up for a Free Six-Month Trial of Spotify Premium

Starting today, Spotify and Walmart+ are teaming up to offer new and existing members of Walmart+ a Spotify Premium trial for six months. Walmart customers who sign up for a Walmart+ membership can get free shipping, early access to shop special promotions and events, free delivery from the store, and prescriptions and gas for less.

Walmart is one of the world’s biggest retailers, and Spotify is the world’s most popular streaming platform, and this exciting new special promotion for Walmart+ members is the first of its kind. It’s available to both new and existing Walmart+ members who haven’t previously tried Spotify Premium. The offer is redeemable via Spotify and Walmart’s landing page.

After redeeming the offer, Walmart+ members will receive the first six months of Spotify’s Individual Premium offering for free—unlocking ad-free streaming of millions of songs. And while ad-free music streaming is a win in itself, Premium users also enjoy unlimited skips as well as the ability to play any song (on both mobile and desktop) and download music for offline and on-the-go listening.

“By tapping into Walmart’s impressive scale and reach, we have a unique opportunity to bring the best in audio content to more people across the U.S.,” said Marc Hazan, VP Premium Partnerships and Business Development at Spotify. “We are always looking to collaborate closely with partners who share our passion for helping more listeners connect with their favorite artists. That is why teaming up with Walmart felt like a perfect fit, and we’re thrilled to be able to work together to bring additional entertainment to Walmart+ members.”

Walmart+ and Spotify both want to bring the best to customers, whether that’s in-store or online, to help them save time and money. This partnership creates an opportunity for Walmart+ members to connect with their favorite artists around the globe—and to do so any time, anywhere.

Enjoy More Ways Than Ever to Use Spotify on Your Apple Watch—Now With Downloads

Your playlists and favorite shows can quickly turn from mundane to momentous—no matter where you are or what you’re doing. With smart speakers, tablets, video game consoles, and TVs, there are more ways than ever to enjoy your favorite music and podcasts from any room of the house. But what if you’re looking for something a little more . . . mobile?

Starting today, we’re rolling out the ability to download your favorite playlists, albums, and podcasts on Apple Watch. All users are already able to play tracks, albums, playlists, and podcasts, and now Premium users will also be able to download everything they’re listening to for a true offline and phone-free experience. This is on top of all the other Spotify features on Apple Watch—from Connect & Control to streaming to Siri.

Check out four great ways to enjoy your favorite music and podcasts on your Apple Watch:

Control playback in your home or on the go

Now, all users can control playback—seamlessly playing, pausing, and skipping tracks or podcast episodes—directly from your wrist. You can also use your Apple Watch to control playback from everything, whether it’s wireless speakers, TVs, or gaming consoles, using Spotify Connect.

Download your playlists and leave your phone behind

Starting today, we’re beginning to roll out the ability for Premium users to download playlists and podcasts to Apple Watch for offline use. Heading on a hike but still want to take your tunes? Here’s how:

  1. Find the music and podcasts you want to download on your watch.
  2. Select the playlist, album, or podcast and press the three dots (…) and choose “Download to Apple Watch.”
  3. To check on the progress, head over to the Downloads section on the watch.
  4. Once playlists, albums, or podcasts in your library are downloaded, you’ll see a little green arrow next to their names.
  5. Connect your headphones and start listening, no matter where you are!

Being able to download music and podcasts complements the existing feature of being able to stream* your favorites from the watch, and now you don’t even have to take your phone with you. It’s perfect for that next run, or for keeping both hands focused while you’re cooking. Leave your phone behind and still stay connected to the music and podcasts you love.

This is the first iteration of the highly requested download experience for Spotify on the Apple Watch. We want to know your thoughts, so head over to our Community page to share your feedback. As always, we continuously make improvements to the overall experience.

Let Siri know what you want to play

With Siri support on Apple Watch, all users can just say “Hey, Siri” followed by your command to play your favorite songs, artists, albums, playlists, and podcasts. You can also “like” music, ask what’s currently playing, and control your media settings, like volume, skip track, play, and pause. Be sure to end each command with “on Spotify” so Siri knows which service to access. Try this on for size: “Hey, Siri, play my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify.”

The new overall experience for Spotify on Apple Watch is rolling out to all users globally over the coming weeks. Users can either update their watches to the latest version or download the app on the App Store.

*Requires Apple Watch Series 3 or later, with watchOS 6.0+ (recommend 7.1+) with a cellular connection or wifi and a Spotify Premium account. Please make sure you are also running the latest version of Spotify on your iPhone.

How to Download and Listen to Music and Podcasts — Offline and On the Go

Sunscreen; check. Hat; check. Playlists; ready for anything—even a vacation destination without Wi-Fi.

Being completely disconnected from Wi-Fi and data—whether in an airplane or rustic cabin in the woods—doesn’t mean you need to be without your favorite music or podcasts. If you’re a Premium subscriber, it only takes a few simple steps while you’re still at home and on Wi-Fi to download your favorite content and ensure it’s available when you go off the grid or up in the air.

First, if you’d like to use Wi-Fi to download, go to Settings > Music Quality > Download Using Cellular and check that the feature is set to the default “off.” From there, it’s easy to download tracks and podcasts on your cell phone, tablet, or iPad:

  1. Search for the content you want
  2. Select the playlist, album, or podcast you want to listen to offline
  3. Switch the download toggle ON—it will turn green so you know it’s working
  4. Once tracks in your library are downloaded, you’ll see a little green arrow below each song name
  5. Connect your headphones and start listening, no matter where you are!

If you’re using Spotify on desktop, but still want to take those songs or podcast episodes with you on your mobile device:

  1. Select songs to download automatically to your device by clicking the plus symbol next to any track
  2. That plus symbol will turn into a checkmark, which means the song will sync to your phone next time it’s connected to WiFi
  3. If you’re looking to organize your downloads, now’s the time! Using your computer to organize tracks into a playlist before you go can be a bit easier

Note that if you’re seeing songs grayed out when you’re offline, it means they’re not downloaded and you won’t be able to play them without Wi-Fi. (It might be a good idea to experiment with going online before you board the plane.) To see everything you’ve downloaded on your phone, check out the “Downloads” tab under “Your Library” on mobile.

Also know that there’s a maximum to the number of songs and podcasts you can download per device. If you do hit the limit, you can always go back and remove some existing downloads.

Plus, keep in mind that in order for Premium subscribers to keep all downloads available, you’ll need to connect your phone to Wi-Fi at least once every 30 days. So if you’re on an extended hiking trip, just make sure to connect to Wi-Fi at least once per month if you want to keep streaming.
