Spotify Debuts Legends Club for Popular German-Language Podcasts With ‘Kaulitz Hills’

The new Spotify Legends Club has opened its doors. Its members: select German-speaking podcasts that have surpassed 100 million streams. This club is introducing a new live-event format where hit podcasts record a video episode in front of an audience of dedicated fans. The first show celebrating this achievement is Kaulitz Hills – Senf aus Hollywood.

The special episode of Kaulitz Hills was recently recorded at Berlin’s legendary restaurant Borchardt, a long-standing gathering place for celebrities, politicians, and socialites. The video episode will drop exclusively on Spotify on March 18.

The idea behind Spotify Legends Club is simple: spotlight shows from the German-speaking world that have left a lasting mark on the podcast landscape, and create opportunities to forge an even closer connection between creators and their most dedicated fans.

Kaulitz Hills was a fitting choice to inaugurate the Legends Club live series. Twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz, who host the show, are Germans who live in Los Angeles. Each week in their music studio in the Hollywood Hills, they hit record, have a few drinks, and discuss their personal lives, pop culture, and current affairs.

Around the World With Our Spotify Studios Producers, Editors, and Engineers

Mano a Mano. Kaulitz Hills. Coming Out. Virus 2062. The Inspired Unemployed. These are just five of the 1000+ Spotify Original podcasts that have found their way into listeners’ podcast queues this past year. And there’s always more where that came from.

Spotify is dedicated to producing creative, engaging shows for our audiences around the world. Each podcast takes hours and hours of taping, producing, and editing. So to do this, we bring together a stellar team of producers, engineers, hosts, and editors across many of the countries we have offices in to work on every type of podcast from scripted to documentary to news podcasts.

In honor of International Podcast Day, we asked several rising Spotify Studio team members from around the world to tell us how they fell in love with podcasting and about the exciting projects they’re currently working on. Get to know them below.

Tokio Hotel’s Bill and Tom Kaulitz Are Airing All on a New Spotify Original Podcast

Musicians and identical twin brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz, known for their band Tokio Hotel, are taking their talents to a new realm in audio: podcasting. The pair are freshly minted hosts of German Spotify Original podcast Kaulitz Hills, a recorded weekly conversation in German about pop culture and their lives in Hollywood. The brothers—well known by fans for their close relationship—will tackle a range of topics, from personal confessions to gossip, accompanied by a few rounds of drinks and a heavy dose of sarcastic humor.

Bill and Tom made their boy band debut in Magdeburg, Germany, in 2001. Four years later, they reached number one with their first single, “Durch den Monsun” (“Through the Monsoon”). After touring for five years and becoming the biggest boy band in Germany, the Kaulitz twins moved to Los Angeles, where they have been living ever since. The show’s name, Kaulitz Hills, is a nod to their Hollywood Hills recording studio, where they record music and will be capturing their conversations for the podcast.

In preparation for the big launch, For the Record asked Bill and Tom to jointly answer a few burning questions about what we can expect from this new project.
