Spotify Takes Discovery to the Next Level in a New Beta Test

When it comes to music discovery, Spotify is always offering new experiences that let you connect with the artists you love and discover your new favorite songs along the way. Features like Blend allow you to mash up your musical tastes with friends, family, and even the artists you listen to. Enhance breathes new life into playlists by adding a personalized collection of songs to your existing picks. And Canvas’s visual loops let you experience songs from your favorite artists (like Olivia Rodrigo and Alfie Templeman) in a more powerful way.

Now we’re giving fans another way to explore on Spotify. Starting today, we’re testing a new experience for Spotify users (across the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada) where they can find new music and check out Canvas loops in a personalized feed that lives on the home screen of the mobile app.

Curious to learn more about how this new experience works? Here’s the inside scoop:

Exploring made easy

To navigate the feed, simply scroll up or down through your personalized picks to hear a preview and see the Canvas for each song.

Dive deeper

Stumble upon an amazing track? You can add that song to one of your playlists or follow the artist, all from one place.

See it, share it

If there’s a recommended song that you want the world to know about, you can share it to your social channels directly from the feed, and the Canvas will loop in the background of your Story.

More daily discovery

There’s always more music (and Canvas loops) for you to discover thanks to daily updates that offer up to 15 fresh recommendations.

Whether you want to get a glimpse into the creator’s mindset or learn more about the story behind the song, with this new beta test, we want to help you get closer than ever before to your favorite artists.

Three Things To Know About Spotify’s Featured Curators Pilot

Spotify’s community is unlike any other. We know that none of our 406 million global listeners stream quite the same way, and we’re always inspired by the creativity, passion, and originality our users bring to the platform each and every day.

One of the biggest ways that listeners bring their individuality to life is through playlist creation. So this month, Spotify is testing a new way to amplify the playlists our listeners create. With the rollout of the Featured Curators pilot, Spotify is testing a new way for listeners to discover music they love with a collection of playlists curated by select Spotify users and influencers.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. It’s inspired by—and made for—fans

The Featured Curators pilot is a limited-time test that promotes popular user and influencer playlists alongside our Spotify playlists. The curators we selected are music lovers with established followings and popular playlists on Spotify, or they’re users telling unique stories through playlists and creating authentic connections with other users.

2. It’s a first

Spotify transformed music discovery through flagship playlists like RapCaviar and personalized playlists like Discover Weekly. Now, we’re experimenting with taking playlist creation and discovery even further. We’re always testing unique and different listening experiences and programs for our fans, and we’re excited to watch this one unfold.

3. It’s a limited pilot

Users in select markets may soon begin to see Featured Curator playlists recommended in-app and on their homepages. As we continue to workshop the program throughout the testing period, we’ll be thoughtful in how we evolve and innovate the experience.

Our goal is always to make Spotify the number one destination for the best listening experience, and with this pilot, we’re giving listeners a new way to discover music from fellow fans who are as engaged as they are.

Get to Know Your Favorite Podcasts Even Better With New Polls Feature

Ever wish you could communicate directly with your favorite podcast hosts—maybe to share who you think their next guest should be, or weigh in on a debate that took place during the episode? Now, you may just get your chance. Spotify is testing a new Polls feature that gives podcasters the opportunity to ask their audience questions within the app. Both the host and listeners will be able to see the responses in real time, opening up an entirely new way for creators and listeners to interact.

Through Polls, listeners can share feedback and opinions as requested by the show’s hosts, who can use that information to better connect with their fans in future episodes—whether it’s discovering what topics listeners want more of, or learning about the type of guests they love to hear from. You can find the poll at the bottom of the episode page for any podcasts where the feature is activated, or on the episode’s Now Playing page.

Note: Responding to a Poll is completely optional and your answer remains anonymous. If you participate, you’ll be able to see how your response stacks up to other respondents. During the testing phase, this feature will be available on select podcasts for 90% of users across all markets on iOS and Android devices.

Ready to give it a try? Starting today, we will be rolling Polls out on a number of episodes of Spotify Originals and Exclusives, like The Rewatchables, Incredible Feats with Dan Cummins, Crime Countdown, and more.

Updated as of Jan 19, 2021: Spotify is also testing this format as a free-response Q&A feature that gives listeners the opportunity to answer questions posed by the podcast host.
