Jam Reaches 100 Million Monthly Listening Hours

When we launched Jam, the idea was simple: Music is better when it’s shared. Since then, listeners around the world have been queuing up tracks, enjoying them in sync, and soundtracking moments together, whether across the couch or across continents.

Now, Jam sessions are hitting a high note with 100 million monthly listening hours. That represents all the shared moments where friends and families are creating their soundtrack together.

And the numbers tell an even bigger story: the U.S., Germany, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada lead the charge as the top countries where Jam is most popular. Cars are now the top device fans use to Jam, followed by speakers, phones, and TVs, proof that shared listening is happening everywhere, from road trips to hanging out at home.

So here’s to the friends who DJ, the ones who just add one song, and everyone who makes the queue a little more unpredictable and a lot more fun. Every Jam proves it: Listening together never goes out of tune.

Premium users can start a Jam by tapping the Create button. Invite friends and family to join, or if you’re playing on a speaker with Spotify Connect or Bluetooth, those nearby can jump right in. Everyone in the Jam can add songs, see who queued what, and shape the vibe.

Mix Your Favorite Playlists Seamlessly by Adding Your Own Transitions

Spotify users around the world have soundtracked their everyday moments by creating nearly 9 billion playlists. Now, Premium users can take their creativity to the next level with the ability to add and customize transitions between tracks.

The feature, now in beta, gives users even more control—allowing music lovers and playlist experts alike to easily create unique playlists. Seamlessly transition between tracks, customize how they flow together, and enhance your mix with features like volume, EQ, and effect curves.

Ready to mix things up? Make your playlist your own with seamless transitions.

    1. Open a playlist you’ve already created, or make a new one.
    2. Select “Mix” from the toolbar and see your playlist change.
    3. Start with “Auto” for an instant blend, or tap to customize your mix and create unique transitions that fit your style.
    4. When customizing, choose a preset like “Fade” or “Rise” to easily apply different transition styles.
    5. Experiment with specific settings for volume, EQ, and effects, and use the waveform and beat data to find the best spot in each track for your transition.
    6. Hit “Save,” then listen to your unique playlist. Share it, or even collaborate on a mixed playlist with friends who are also Premium users.
    7. You can toggle the mix on and off at any time by pressing the “Mix” button.

New to audio mixing? These simple tips will help you level up your playlist.

    • Match tempos and keys: For the most natural-sounding transitions, choose songs with similar tempos and Camelot keys. When you tap “Mix,” we’ll automatically show the key and BPM (beats per minute) for each track, so you can easily scan and reorder to help your playlist flow more smoothly.
    • Start with transition-friendly genres: Mixing works best with music produced for seamless transitions. Dance genres like house and techno tend to blend more smoothly.
    • Consider the energy: Think about the mood and energy you want your playlist to have. Plan your song order to gradually build up or wind down the energy, guiding listeners through an emotional journey.
    • Tap into your best playlists: Mixing is perfect for moments when you want to avoid awkward pauses. For example, upgrade your running playlist for consistent BPMs to set your pace, or curate the ideal road trip or party playlist to keep the vibe going.
    • Visualize it: Make your playlist even more unique by creating your own cover art with new stickers and labels, available only for mixed playlists.

Spotify Premium is the ultimate destination for fans to enjoy the music they love, and we’re always evolving to make it even better. With custom transitions in playlists, we hope to empower users to shape their listening experience and express themselves through the music they love.

This new feature is rolling out to eligible Premium users, so please make sure your Spotify app is up to date.

daylist Is Expanding Into New Markets and Languages, So Here Are 3 Tips To Make the Most of It

From sunup to sundown, Spotify’s daylist serves up an ever-changing playlist of songs that match your mood as it evolves throughout the day. Since launching a year ago, it has erupted as a fan-favorite feature that listeners keep coming back to. In fact, 70% of daylist users tune in week after week, millions of listeners stream it every day, and it has emerged as one of the most popular Spotify features that drives discovery.

This spring, we expanded daylist in English into 65 additional markets, but there are still listeners around the world eagerly awaiting this one-of-a-kind experience. Today, we’re thrilled to share that daylist will be available globally to both Free and Premium users—and, for the first time ever, supported in the following languages: Arabic, Catalan, French (Canada), French (France), German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), and Turkish.

With this expansion, many users will now be able to see our unique daylist titles in their native languages, from “afrofuturisme funk moderne du mercredi après-midi” (modern funk afrofuturism wednesday afternoon) to “pazartesi sabah etiyopya caz enstrümantal funk” (ethiopian jazz instrumental funk monday morning). Our product team worked closely with our local music and culture experts to infuse the spirit of daylist into each language, ensuring that the feature resonates with new users worldwide.

On devices where Spotify is available, simply search “daylist” to bring up your playlist or head to spotify.com/daylist. You can also find daylist in the Made For You hub. The feature updates multiple times a day, and you can view on the playlist page when your next update will be.

If you’re trying out daylist for the first time—or want a few pro tips to get even more out of it—we’ve got you covered.

How to share your daylist

Since its launch, daylist has proved to be quite the conversation starter. In fact, Wrapped aside, it’s Spotify’s most-shared personalized experience, with millions of shares from users in markets where the playlist is available. Since daylist is all about expressing your individuality, shareability is built into the experience and you can choose from three different sharecard options to upload:

    • A changing sharecard with up to four different background graphics depending on the time of day you post your daylist
    • A ready-made screenshot of your daylist
    • A social media sticker that captures the essence of your daylist

How to make a copy of your daylist

Just because daylist is a playlist that regularly updates doesn’t mean you can’t save the moods that strike the perfect chord. If you’re loving a specific daylist playlist, you can save it to Your Library in three easy steps:

    • Tap the three-dot menu on the playlist page.
    • Select “Add to other playlist.”
    • Tap “New playlist” to save that exact daylist to Your Library.

  • Listen + Share: After everyone has joined the collaborative playlist, you and your friends will receive a custom share card that you can use to spread the word on social media.

Our Playlist Submission Feature is Officially Out of Beta

This post first appeared on Spotify for Artists:

Our playlist submission feature is officially out of beta.

few months ago, we unveiled a beta feature in the Spotify for Artists tool that gives artists, labels, and teams the ability to share new music directly with our editorial team for playlist consideration. Since the feature became available in July more than 67,000 artists and labels have submitted music and now we’re excited to announce our playlist submission feature is officially out of beta.

Since the beta began, over 10,000 artists have been added to Spotify editorial playlists for the first time, connecting their music with thousands of new fans. To offer just a few examples, when acoustic troubadour Gustavo Bertoni’s song “Be Here Now” was selected to appear on the Acoustic Morning and Fresh Folk playlists, his monthly listeners jumped from 7,000 to 617,000. Elsewhere alt-rock band Yonaka, hailing from Brighton in the UK, saw their numbers increase from 82,000 to a whopping 290,000 when they were added to New Music Friday, while the Belgian rapper Bryan Mg shot up to 33,000 monthly listeners up from 4,600 after landing on the La Vida Loca playlist.

“After the first release got picked up by Spotify I think about a month later I got my first booking for a club show,” recalls Mg. “People also started to send me private messages on Instagram about where they heard my music for the first time. I also received invitations for radio stations in the Netherlands and in Belgium and saw my followers on Instagram and Spotify get a boost.”

Pop newcomer Jayden Bartels explains, “Seeing my music on Spotify for the first time was so exciting, but to see that ‘Can’t Help Me Now’ made Spotify’s official playlists New Music Friday and Pop Sauce was absolutely incredible! New Music Friday features my favorite artists every week and to see my name on that playlist was crazy and such an honor!”

When her song “Can’t Help Me Now” was featured on New Music Friday, her monthly listeners practically tripled to 72,000. Prior to utilizing this new feature her music had never been added to an official Spotify playlist.

Seeing these kinds of numbers and hearing this kind of feedback makes us very happy, and while we can’t guarantee them for every artist, every time, what’s especially great about this new tool is, whether your new song is featured in an editorial playlist or not, it’ll always show up in all of your followers’ Release Radar playlists. Plus, the additional metadata you provide when you upload it will help us recommend it to potential new fans for years to come.

We know you’ve been asking for more information about how our playlists work. That’s why to celebrate coming out of beta, we’ve made a couple new episodes of our original series, The Game Plan.
