Our New Integration Allows You To Share Music and Podcasts On BeReal—Here’s How

You never know when that yellow hazard notification is going to strike, but when it does, you’re ready. You grab your phone, position it toward whatever you’re up to at the moment, and let BeReal’s double-sided camera do the rest.

Starting today, when you use BeReal, you can also include what you’re listening to on Spotify! Excited? Here’s how to get started.

  1. Connect your Spotify and BeReal accounts. There are two ways to do this. Eligible users—or even soon-to-be users—can do this by tapping on the music icon that’s shown before posting their BeReal. Otherwise, within the BeReal app, navigate to “Settings,” then “Music,” and follow the prompts to connect to Spotify.
  2. Once you’ve connected your accounts, we’ll automatically pull in the song or podcast you’re listening to on Spotify at the time you capture a BeReal. You’ll see the cover art of the audio you’re listening to at the bottom of your camera lens.
  3. Check out what other friends are listening to on your BeReal feed! You’ll also be able to listen to a preview of what they’ve shared.

Spotify was built for moments of everyday inspiration, discovery, and interactivity. It also creates the playlist for your everyday life. BeReal is designed to capture and share authentic moments in your daily life with your closest friends. Combining audio from Spotify with BeReal adds another layer of authentic personalization and connection to your BeReal.

We’re proud of this integration within the BeReal platform. We’re constantly finding new ways to bring Spotify to more people, and helping fans, artists, and communities connect through audio around the world. Starting today, BeReal and Spotify users on Android and iOS in select markets (including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, and the U.S.) can access this experience as it rolls out—with more markets to follow.

Elevate Your GIF Game With GIPHY and Spotify’s New Music Feature

After searching GIPHY, an online database that contains billions of GIFs, stickers, and more, you’ve found it. You’ve spotted the perfect GIF. Now, it’s time to share it in your group chat so your friends can get a feel for your reaction—no words necessary.

No matter how you pronounce it, GIFs are the ultimate visual metaphor. And now, thanks to a partnership with Spotify and GIPHY, music can be part of the equation. We’re teaming up with GIPHY to enable new Spotify-linked artist GIFs. When users click the GIF on the verified GIPHY artists’ pages, they’ll be taken directly to the featured artist’s Spotify page for a listening session.

Artists Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, The Kid LAROI, and Conan Gray have already kicked off the integration, with more to come.

Users around the globe can find the feature on verified GIPHY artist pages and they can be experienced through both GIPHY’s web and mobile platform. Here’s how it works:

  1. Search for artists’ GIFs on their official GIPHY channel via GIPHY.com or GIPHY’s mobile apps
  2. Once on the artist’s official GIPHY channel, click on the GIF you’d like to use
  3. Tap the “Listen on Spotify” button on any participating GIF
  4. Users will be taken directly to the artist’s Spotify page, where they can listen and discover even more music from artists they love

Ready to give it a try? Check out Doja Cat’s, The Weeknd’s, Post Malone’s, Nicki Minaj’s, The Kid LAROI’s, and Conan Gray’s verified GIPHY pages to see the integration in action.

Share What You’re Listening to on Spotify with Snapchat

With Spotify, you can listen to your favorite music and podcasts anytime, anywhere. With Snapchat, you can share what you’re up to instantaneously. Soon you’ll be able to combine the two seamlessly and share what you’re listening to in a Snap [story].

As part of a new integration, all Spotify users who have the Snapchat app installed will be able to share your favorite tracks, playlists, albums, and podcasts right to Snapchat for sharing with friends directly or posting to your Story. Here’s how:

  1. Tap the “share” menu (three dots on the right of the screen) while you’re listening to any song, album, artist, or podcast.
  2. Select “Snapchat” from the dropdown list.
  3. Snapchat will open a new Snap with the full album art included.
  4. Edit and send—whether to a few people or to your Story!

If a friend sends you a Snap with a song, playlist, artist profile, or podcast rec included, you can start streaming with a few quick steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the context card with song, artist, playlist, or podcast info.
  3. Spotify will open and play away! (If you don’t have the Spotify app yet, download it for free here.)

With this new way of sharing, it’s quicker and easier for friends to share what they’re listening to — and for others to start listening.

Look out for the integration, rolling out soon across iOS and Android devices.

Finding the Perfect Driving Playlist Just Got Much Easier

You know the feeling. You’re on the road and a song comes on. It’s not just any song – it’s the perfect song…and, all of a sudden, your ordinary drive is extraordinarily awesome. You turn the volume to full blast, nod your head to the beat and maybe even smile at the driver next to you at the traffic light. If they happen to be listening to their perfect driving song, they might just smile back.

Drivers have been rocking out in their cars for nearly 70 years, since the first FM radios were fitted into autos in the early 1950s. Later, the advent of cassette mix tapes, then burning CDs helped consumers customize their driving soundtracks. Naturally, when music streaming services came on the scene, people were even more empowered to personalize their listening experiences…and they did, creating well over one million Spotify playlists specifically geared toward driving.

“If you’re listening to music you don’t love, and you can’t skip, it makes the drive seem harder and longer,” says Jonathan Tarlton, of Spotify’s automotive business development team. “But when Spotify can really nail it and you hear perfect track after track, you might want to take the long way to work.”

Today, some 70 million users use Spotify in their cars—and there’s a good chance that number will grow, thanks to a recently announced collaboration between Spotify and Cadillac. Cadillac drivers can now download the Spotify app directly to their car’s infotainment system–no phone, no cables, no bluetooth necessary. The app understands that you’re in the car and will provide music recommendations that are perfect for road tripping, getting to work, or singing along with friends. It’s more convenient, safer and delivers personalized playlists, perfectly suited to each and every driver.

“It’s as simple as tuning to a radio station,” says Stefan Cross, a communications manager for General Motors, Cadillac’s parent company. “It requires much less hassle on the backend. It’s really getting the music that you want in a safe non-distracting way, but still providing you a very robust experience.”

And that might do more than improve drivers’ moods. It could actually make them better drivers.

Cadillac decided to partner with Spotify on music streaming in part, Cross says, because of something Cadillac’s own research had revealed: Access to various music options seems to discourage aggression among drivers. “In focus groups, we have found that when customers have more listening options, they have fewer hard brakes, which is typically a sign of aggressive driving,” Cross says.

Tarlton says Spotify is interested in “leaning in” to the idea of proactively using music to help people overcome challenging driving situations, like providing specific playlist recommendations to lift their spirits when it’s raining.

For now, Spotify is building a foundation for in-car playlists. Monday morning commuters may receive recommendations for upbeat songs to help energize them for the work week ahead. On a Friday evening, drivers gearing up for the weekend may enjoy brand new music from Spotify’s popular Release Radar customized playlist.

Of course, you won’t find the app surfacing Sleep playlists, but other than that, the sky—or rather, the open road—is the limit for Cadillac drivers and Spotify users intent on finding the ideal driving soundtrack.

“Drivers have this new world of choices,” Tarlton says. “Now, they can be their own DJs.”
