From Gaming to Dating, New Star-Studded Filipino Original Podcasts Come to Spotify

Last year, Spotify welcomed nine Filipino fan favorite podcasts exclusively to the platform. Now, we are expanding our audio content to bring listeners a star-studded slate of seven brand-new Spotify Original podcasts from Filipino creators.

These new shows, which range in topics from gaming and well-being to dating and friends, feature homegrown personalities and crowd favorites like Pia Wurtzbach, Donnalyn Bartolome, Wil Dasovich, and more. These creators are joining a growing number of podcasters across Asia and the Philippines who are using Spotify as a platform to tell their stories, create content that matters, and connect with listeners in an intimate way.

Get to know the seven new shows below.

Between Us Queens (English/Tagalog)

Led by Miss Universe 2015 winner Pia Wurtzbach along with fellow beauty queens Bianca Guidotti and Carla Lizardo, this podcast serves as an avenue for these former pageant ladies to share their experiences and talk about what it means to be a modern Filipina.

Itatama Pa Ba or Tama Na?  (English/Tagalog)

Recording artist and internet personality Donnalyn Bartolome went viral for sharing an emotional video that showed her unboxing personal effects returned by her ex. Now, in her new podcast, she’s hoping to help real-life lovers settle the score or mend broken hearts. In each episode, Donnalyn participates in unofficial couples therapy sessions to help mediate the conversation and help guests learn and grow from their heartbreak.

The Raid with Alodia & Ashley (Tagalog)

One of the Philippines’ biggest gaming streamers and OG cosplayers, Alodia Gosiengfiao, is joined by her sister Ashley as they geek out on all things anime and gaming. The podcast also gives people a sneak peek into what an otaku (person who has a keen fondness for Japanese comics or animation) sibling duo’s life is like.

Spotify’s New Argentinian Original Podcast ‘Lado BB’ Invites Listeners to Take Part in an Immersive Audio Experience

Podcasts are, in many ways, like music: Both mediums are immersive, feature unique personalities you can get to know through their stories, and connect listeners with the world around them. When the two are combined, even more opportunities and experiences are brought to the surface.

Take the new Spotify Original podcast out of Argentina, Lado BB. In it, Bebe Contepomi, the well-known music journalist and authority in Spanish-speaking language and Argentine music, shares intimate conversations with leading musicians.

Lado BB is more than a podcast—it’s a gateway to the unknown and most intimate side of great music personalities. In the 10-episode weekly series, Bebe (or “BB”), interviews leading music figures to give listeners an inside scoop into the “BB” side of the music world. Join the host as he travels with artists including Fito Páez, Ricardo Mollo, Andrés Calamaro, Lali, and Gustavo Santaolalla through each person’s deepest stories.

“Audio is a format where, just like in books, you become an active part of the story,” says Javier Piñol, Head of Spotify Studios Latam & US LatinX. “If we listen to an audio talking about a scene, we can imagine it differently. We have identified that there is a demand for this audio power to allow our listeners to be part of the creation of the stories of each episode.”

“When we initially came up with the idea of the project, we wanted to convey something beyond just an interview or conversation with an artist,” continues Javier. “This podcast unlocks the potential for immersive experiences that audio provides.”

Ready to experience the BB side of music? Lado BB is original and exclusive to Spotify. Tune into the first episode, which debuted September 8, below.

Tanya Hennessy Speaks Up in ‘I Can’t Stop,’ a New Spotify Original Podcast

Tanya Hennessy isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind—and she’s built a massive following doing just that. You might recognize her from online videos where she shares her funny, real, and relatable takes. Now the Australian comedian, author, radio presenter, and social media sensation is bringing her often “hearted” opinions to the podcasting world in her new show, I Can’t Stop.

The Spotify Australia and New Zealand Studios Original podcast gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the realities behind social media, television, and radio. Tanya will also take on a variety of other topics, like those random thoughts that keep you up at night and questions you never thought to ask yourself. True to her style, the unofficial “queen of relatable” shares it all with the heart and vulnerability of a 30-something who’s just trying to understand the world around her. Joining her each week will be comedian Steph Tisdell, who will be asking questions on behalf of listeners.

Ready to be even more excited? Hear from Tanya herself as she introduces the podcast, explains what listeners can look forward to, and opens up about the importance of taking risks—while never losing her candor or sense of humor.

Spotify Japan Launches New Original Podcast With Influencer kemio

If you’re looking for the latest on fashion and social media trends, look no further than Japanese internet star kemio. Known for his big personality and high-energy videos, kemio has amassed millions of followers since stepping into the online limelight. And now, he’s ready to tackle a new project: his very own podcast.

His new Spotify Original podcast, kemio no mimisouji club, gives fans a chance to hear kemio in a whole new light as he interacts with some of Japan’s most popular guests, discussing everything under the sun, from life philosophies and careers to trends in social media.

We chatted with the Manhattan-based Tokyo native to learn about his new show.

You’ve already seen a lot of success on social video platforms. How did you get your start and what have you learned since then?

I started making short videos for social media when I was in high school, which is where this really all started. I was working my first part-time job and just making them for fun. I didn’t really expect for them to go viral, but their popularity allowed me to transition my career into video and other social media platforms, and opened many other doors for me. Since then, I’ve learned to not care what people think. I’ve had a lot of people throughout my career say I can’t do this or that. If I had listened to those people, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s important to always stay true to yourself and your dream because at the end of the day, no one but you will make it happen.

Podcasts are a very different medium, with no visual aspect. How is your podcast going to be different from your videos?

The podcast is going to be more informative than my videos. I’ll have weekly guest appearances, which is a very different format. Also, my videos are more fun and mostly about me, but the podcast will be about learning and educating people—including myself. It’s a place for listeners to learn from my guests about different industries.

Can you share who any of the guests are for the show?

In my first episode, I talk to HIKAKIN-san*, who is a very well-known video influencer in Japan. I wanted to have him as my first guest because I really admire him and think he helped pave the way for video influencers in Japan today.

But I want to note that not all of my guests will be from this industry. I want to use this platform to open up conversations about other important topics as well.

How is the podcasting medium different from video? Anything that surprised you?

Podcasting is very different from making videos. When I make a video, I pretty much do everything myself. However, with a podcast there are many other people behind the scenes that make it come together properly. I love this because I like working and hearing from other people on the team. It’s a great learning experience for me and I’m very grateful.

How do you think your fans will react to the new show?

I want to show my fans the other side of me that they may not know through my videos. And this podcast gives me a chance to connect to new audiences on a new platform. I think existing fans will enjoy the show—it’s just an extension of my career, which they already love and support.

Podcasts are starting to become more popular in Asia. How do you think that will change in the coming months and years?

I think they will definitely become more popular— especially in Japan. My hope is that they will become more mainstream, much like they are here in the United States.

What role Spotify played in your podcast journey?

Podcasts are widely popular in the United States, where I live. To me, the appeal of podcasts is being able to listen to what you are interested in anytime, even while doing something else. With Spotify, you can enjoy a comprehensive audio experience by going back and forth between music and podcasts.

Spotify has truly helped bring this idea to life. I didn’t have the tools or knowledge of running my own podcast before this started. They have really helped make the show possible.

German News Anchor Linda Zervakis Celebrates Diversity in Her New Spotify Original Podcast, ‘Linda Zervakis präsentiert: Gute Deutsche’

German news anchor Linda Zervakis likes to describe herself as a “Hamburg native with Greek roots.” Due to her family’s experience with immigration and what she calls her “migration background,” she has a frankness around multinationalism and an interest in diversity that she brings to all aspects of her life. Now the journalist and author is taking her passion to a new medium in the Spotify original podcast Linda Zervakis präsentiert: Gute Deutsche.

In each episode, a well-known guest will join Linda to share their family’s story of migration and the formative role of their homeland. The show also tackles tougher topics, like stereotypes and misconceptions. While these conversations at times are serious, Linda always approaches them with her signature lightheartedness and humor. Through deep dives into the culture, politics, and history of the guest’s origin country, the podcast aims to prove that all of us, no matter where we’re from, are more alike than we are different.

For the Record caught up with Linda to talk about what she hopes listeners will take away from Gute Deutsche.

Your podcast challenges people’s perceptions of individuals and stereotypes about the country their families migrated from. Why is this so important?

The podcast is meant to help break down stereotypes about people who come from different countries. Hopefully, this will show listeners that having people from different nationalities in your life is enriching for both people and society.

You’re very open about the background that you and your family come from. What has been the response to that?

I’m often contacted on social media by people who tell me that my story has given them courage. They know that I come from a simple upbringing and that I have made it this far despite my parents’ background. Growing up, I never thought I would be a role model for so many people.

You have a segment called “The Pearl from Afar” where guests bring with them something that reminds them of their journey from one country to another—what you would refer to as a “pearl.” What is yours?

I would definitely bring mixed Greek appetizers. Among them would be white beans in tomato sauce, grilled octopus with olive oil and fresh lemon, and fava, a Greek version of hummus made from yellow flat peas as well as fresh spring onions and parsley. And for washing it all down afterwards: a good ouzo. (Thinking about this made me hungry again immediately!)

What do you hope listeners will take away from this podcast?

I hope that we can bring a lightheartedness into difficult topics and that we can show that a colorful, diverse society is enriching to everyone.

Podcasts have traditionally featured primarily male voices. What advice do you have for aspiring female podcasters who may be nervous about entering this industry?

Believe in yourself and your podcast; don’t let statistics scare you.

If you could have any guest on your show, who would it be and why?

Edin Hasanovic. He was born in the middle of the Bosnian war, grew up without a father, and is so talented and has a great career. To me, that’s more than impressive.

What podcasts are you streaming lately?

I’m a fan of Fest & Flauschig and also listen to Hotel Matze from time to time.

What was the most surprising thing you learned while recording the show?

I learned that home does not have to be a place, but instead a feeling. This feeling can arise when you have family and friends around you that you don’t have anywhere else in the world.

Let Your Imagination Run Wild with Spotify’s First Original French Fictional Podcast Thriller, ‘L’Employé’

Manipulated or manipulator . . . who is L’Employé? That is the question at the heart of our first foray into French fiction podcasts.

L’Employé (The Employee) is a new French language audio series sure to leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Available October 21 exclusively on Spotify, the eight-episode thriller, set in a totalitarian state, is played by French actor Raphaël Personnaz. His character, known only as “The Employee,” is a dark, intimidating, and manipulative figure working to capture law-breakers by any means necessary.

Jonathan Zaccaï, Thibault de Montalembert, Garance Marillier, and Alix Poisson join the roster of folks interrogated by The Employee (some of the characters fight to escape his more-than-questionable methods). The plot later takes on a whole new dimension with the intervention of the character The Superior, played by Virginie Ledoyen.

Tune into L’Employé starting October 21 to discover a new storytelling audio experience exclusively on Spotify.
