Swedish Gen Z Hit ‘Vad? med IJustWantToBeCool’ Comes Exclusively to Spotify

Anyone want a slice of pizza to go with their podcast? Sweden’s biggest Gen Z show, Vad? med IJustWantToBeCool, is the latest podcast to come exclusively to Spotify—and the pizza party’s just getting started.

Comedy trio Victor, Emil, and Joel debuted their hit podcast, Vad? (What?), in May 2020 after 10 years of making humorous video content. Since then, the show has climbed the charts to become one of Sweden’s biggest podcasts with a younger Gen Z audience (those aged 7 to 20). Each episode consists of the friends asking each other what they would do if faced with certain situations and telling stories from their lives to reinforce their responses.

Keeping with their comedic sentiments, the trio announced their exclusivity with Spotify through a series of sketches showing them dramatically moving into the Spotify office, claiming to own the place. And since at the end of every exhausting move comes a “moving pizza,” IJustWantToBeCool created a special pizza for their fans to enjoy.

the hosts of "Vad" share a pizza on a couch

Fans in Stockholm can get in on the fun for the next two weeks by heading to one of the two Deglabbet pizza shop locations and ordering a special “Moving Pizza,” which is made with a special recipe from the trio and will be served in a branded Vad?” takeaway box.

The Viral Duo Behind The Inspired Unemployed are Bringing Their Talents to a New Spotify Original Podcast

Australians Matt Ford and Jack Steele may seem like a pair of average Joe’s, but their 1.2 million social media followers, modeling contracts with high-end brands, and spreads in magazines like GQ and Vogue tell a different story. The duo, known as The Inspired Unemployed, are not yet accustomed to their new lives, however—their ascent to fame only began when their comedy sketches started going viral in 2019. Now the two friends are taking on a new media format with their Spotify Original Podcast of the same name: The Inspired Unemployed.

Starting today, fans of The Inspired Unemployed account will get to listen to honest, real, and funny conversations that reflect on Jack and Matt’s feelings of being “fish out of water” in the world of internet stardom.

“The podcast is about us and how we are navigating the sudden whiplash of fame and success,” the best friends told For the Record. Apparently, that also includes changes in their family dynamics. “We have both overtaken our sisters and are now our mothers’ favorite children,” they added.

Their success didn’t come overnight, however. The pair took a big risk in quitting their day jobs once they started gaining a steady following in 2019. Now, even with millions of followers and 700,000 daily views, they’re still the bros-next-door who hit it off when they met in grade school over a decade ago.

That’s what makes them so engaging to watch and listen to. When it comes to finding creative inspiration, they shared, “Most of the time it’s just us sitting around talking about funny scenarios and then bringing them to life.”

And while their fan base is mainly concentrated close to home in the Australia and New Zealand regions, the pair hopes their weekly podcast will resonate around the world: “While you can see there is a very Aussie feel to our comedy, we still think it’s relatable. Humour is universal, after all.”

Ready for your weekly dose of tongue-in-cheek humor, spontaneous dares, and hilarious musings directly from the minds of Matt and Jack? Listen to the first episode of The Inspired Unemployed podcast below.

Last Podcast on The Left”.

Enissa Amani Explores Culture and Comedy in Her New Spotify Original Podcast

Enissa Amani is a chameleon onstage. The Iranian-born German comedian prides herself on the ability to bend and transform her material for any audience based on location, language, and culture. Now she’s also working this flexibility into a new medium for her debut German-language Spotify Original Podcast, Statements aus Seide (“Statements Made of Silk”). Like her on-stage comedy, Enissa’s new show will cover a range of topics from feminism to fashion. “I want to share the moments which all mankind has in common: the pain, the fears, the desires,” says Enissa.

As the first German comedian with a stand-up special on Netflix, she’s honed her craft—expect plenty of laughs. But in Statements aus Seide, Enissa will also share thoughtful deliberations on her life growing up as an Iranian refugee in Germany, her work as a social justice advocate, and whatever else is on her mind—all in 30- to 60-minute episodes.

Enissa spoke with For the Record about performing in different languages, her activism work, and creating her own podcast.

What can fans of your comedy stand-up expect from the podcast?

In my podcast I’ll touch upon all the issues I have not yet touched upon onstage. I’ve told my stories a few times when I was a guest on other podcasts, and the feedback was tremendous. People who hadn’t even followed my work told me that my point of view was extremely helpful to them.

Over the years, I wrote down every story of my family, my friends, and book quotes which inspired me. Those words can offer people a real way out of hopeless moments. This will be a funny podcast—an honest hour to let you begin or end your day with a smile.

How has your background as an Iranian immigrant informed your comedy?

Being an Iranian refugee child and being trilingual helps me to approach people on different cultural levels. And every time I perform, I am a different kind of Enissa. The Berlin Show Enissa is a much rougher comic than the LA, Hollywood, Laugh Factory Enissa, who is more into the German-Persian Background Stories. The New York Enissa is much cooler than the Farsi show in Vienna, where Iranians are just starting to get into stand-up.

I get to taste all these different moments of laughter and try very different stand-up materials.

As refugees, or “first-generation Germans,” we are torn apart between identities, but every kind of conflict always helps with comedy.

What’s your life been like since your Netflix special premiered?

My specials changed my work. I started playing shows in three languages. I had the honor to have stage time at the Laugh Factory in LA, and the Improv, the Gotham, and the Comedy Cellar in New York. All stages I had never dreamed I’d be able to perform in a language which is not my first. I also play Farsi shows in Germany, Austria, and the UK.

You’re not afraid to share your opinions on issues like racism and inequality. How did comedy become an outlet for you to share these thoughts?

I’m really surprised that my activism for human rights and against racism here in Germany kind of got bigger than my work as a comedian. In the beginning, everybody told me to “stick with comedy” whenever I was outspoken about problems in our society. Now all my statements go viral with 12,000 comments sometimes, and everybody asks me to seriously get into politics. There is this running gag of my followers calling me “the chancellor.”

I love the fact that everything that your heart tells you to do—if you have the courage to follow that voice—becomes your real vocation or even destiny.

What would you like people to take away from your podcast?

I’m going to share my most intimate stories, experiences, and inspirations on my podcast because I know it will help through dark times. Every smile you can inspire is a smile you‘ll create for the world.

When it comes to German podcasts, comedy is king. It’s the number one genre in the country, with more than a third of the top podcasts falling into the category. We caught up with Till to learn about his take on comedy, the ideal podcast guest, and more.

According to Spotify’s streaming data, comedy is currently the most popular podcast genre in Germany. Why do you think that is?

It’s entertainment, obviously! Most people like to listen to two funny people talking. And of course, it helps if it’s their job anyway.
