B-LINE Is Here to Help: Backline Launches 24/7 Music Industry Mental Health & Crisis Support Line in Partnership with Spotify

Today, Spotify is proud to support our partner Backline, an industry-leading mental health and wellness nonprofit, in the launch of B-LINE, a 24/7 mental health and crisis support line created exclusively for the U.S. music community. For artists, their teams, and their families, B-LINE provides a connection to trained counselors who understand the unique pressures of working in music and are available around the clock. This first-of-its-kind service is open now.

The new hotline builds on the momentum from initiatives like Chappell Roan’s WE GOT YOU! fundraising campaign for Backline, which rallied the industry to better care for its own. As lead sponsor, Spotify is honored to help bring B-LINE to life alongside key partners Noah Kahan and Live Nation. Additional support comes from Kahan’s The Busyhead Project, Adyen, AEG Presents, Red Light Management, and Wasserman Foundation.

“Artists are the lifeblood of culture, but too often they and their teams don’t have the safety nets they need. That has to change,” said Charlie Hellman, Spotify’s Global Head of Music. “Spotify is proud to enable Backline to build B-LINE and expand access to this critical support.”

Available in the U.S., B-LINE provides anyone working in and around music with immediate, confidential support and a seamless transition into long-term care. Backline is working with experts like Vibrant Emotional Health, a national leader in mental health, to deliver this service.

“This has always been the dream,” said Hilary Gleason, Backline Cofounder and Executive Director. “We’ve supported thousands of music industry professionals in their mental health and wellness journeys, but one critical piece was missing: real-time access to care. B-LINE changes that.”

The widespread support from across the industry speaks to the urgent need for this resource. “Support for the well-being of the incredibly hard-working artists and people that make the music industry function has long been neglected,” said Kahan. “A dedicated 24-hour hotline is the first step toward accessing critical mental health support.” Michael Rapino, Live Nation Entertainment President & CEO, added, “B-LINE gives them something we’ve long needed: immediate help, anytime.”

This partnership is part of Spotify’s ongoing commitment to creator well-being, which extends globally. For a full guide on how B-LINE works and to explore additional resources, including crisis support for those working outside the U.S., head to Spotify for Artists.

Spotify’s World Mental Health Day Campaign Amplifies Connection and Youth Voices with UNICEF

This World Mental Health Day, Spotify is helping listeners slow down, reconnect, and find belonging through the power of audio. With our campaign “Take a Beat. Tune Into Connection,” we’re shining a light on the global loneliness crisis and encouraging people everywhere to pause and reconnect. While audio alone can’t solve loneliness, it can be a powerful companion in bridging emotional and cultural divides.

At the heart of this campaign is the Take a Beat hub—a space filled with curated playlists, podcasts, audiobooks (where available), and features like Blend. Whether it’s ambient sounds, conversations about belonging, or stories that bring people closer, the hub helps listeners find moments of calm, connection, and well-being. Joining the conversation are creators from around the world, including the hosts of GrownKid; Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, Ira Khan, Nikhil Taneja, and Ryan Lu; author Yung Pueblo; and artists Felix Jaehn, Mickey Guyton, and Raghav Sachar—who share how they “take a beat” and “tune into connection” through their own journeys on socials or on-platform.

Through activations across the platform and with our bandmates, Spotify is creating moments that inspire reflection and reconnection for artists, podcasters, authors, employees, and fans alike. The campaign builds on Heart & Soul, Mental Health for Creators. In partnership with leading nonprofits, this global effort aims to provide meaningful support, challenge cultural norms, and ensure that artists, songwriters, and their teams can access the help they need—when they need it.

The unifying power of audio

While Spotify connects millions of people through sound, we know not everyone has access to our platform. As part of our social impact work, Spotify is launching a micro-grant initiative to support nonprofits and community groups working to combat loneliness and strengthen social connection, especially for vulnerable populations.

In the US, the grant will support the Foundation for Social Connection, whose mission is to advance social connection nationwide, rooted in evidence for our collective well-being. Spotify is also partnering with Book It Around™, an audiobook walking club founded by Kit Ballenger and Morgan Menzies that brings readers together through shared stories. To get ready, Book It Around™ curated a playlist of their favorite audiobooks on connection and well-being.

Amplifying youth voices with UNICEF

Building on this global call to connection, Spotify and UNICEF are expanding our award-winning partnership with the Youth Mental Health Audio Innovation Challenge across five countries: Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste, and Zimbabwe.

This new initiative empowers young people to co-create localized mental health audio content using audio as a bridge for connection and belonging—from podcasts and poetry to music and spoken word—rooted in their own languages and cultures. By transforming listening into creation, they are turning local stories based on their own experiences into tools for understanding and community, creating pieces that other young people can relate to.

Since 2022, the partnership has delivered trusted digital mental health content through the Our Minds Matter hub and the On My Mind podcast, co-created with young people and based on UNICEF-led research. By amplifying authentic youth voices, this next chapter sparks meaningful conversations, encourages self-reflection, reduces stigma, and brings mental health support closer to the young people who need it most.

Take a beat, together

However you listen, audio has the power to help us feel seen, heard, and less alone. This World Mental Health Day, we invite you to take a moment—pause, tune into connection, and remember that we’re never really alone.

UNICEF and Spotify’s Award-Winning Mental Health Hub, Our Minds Matter, Comes to Latin America

Mental health and well-being are fundamental components of a child’s healthy development and future. Today, one in seven adolescents globally experiences a mental health condition, with half of all mental disorders developing before the age of 14 and 75% by the mid-20s. In Latin America and the Caribbean, around 16 million children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 16 live with a diagnosed mental disorder.

Since 2022 Spotify and UNICEF have been working together to help ensure that young people around the world can access trusted and engaging mental health audio content. The Our Minds Matter hub was first launched in Ukrainian, Polish, and English in June 2023, focusing on responding to the urgent mental health needs of young people who have been affected by the war in Ukraine.

Today, we are launching a Spanish-language version, Una Mente Sana Importa, to continue to help reduce the large gap between the mental health resources young people need and what is currently available to them. The Our Minds Matter hub is now available in seven countries in Latin America: Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Guatemala, Chile, and Paraguay.

In the hub, listeners will find the UNICEF On My Mind podcast, which is co-created with young people and informed by evidence on mental health needs. The hub also includes content curated by Spotify, like podcasts talking about real-life experiences and inspiring stories around mental health, as well as music playlists for relaxation, focus, and sleep.

Spotify has engaged some of the region’s most popular artists to support the launch. This includes Morat, Ivana, Santiago Cruz, and Camilú and podcasters including Roberto Rocha of En terapia con Roberto Rocha, Eva Latapi Silva of Supéralo, Por Favor, Tatiana Franko of VOS PODÉS, María José Álvarez Betín of Autoestima para tu vida, and Jacinta de Oromí of TIPO de Jacinta de Oromí.

We’re proud of our continued partnership with UNICEF to support the mental health and well-being of young people everywhere, including those on the move or in crisis. Together, we will continue to focus on harnessing the power of music, audio, and other innovative digital content to deliver trusted and engaging mental health content for young people, their caregivers, and communities,” said Katarina Berg, Chief Human Resources Officer at Spotify.

The eight episodes developed for Season 1 of the On My Mind podcast aim to improve knowledge, attitudes, practices, and behaviors among young people specifically related to their mental health. The podcast focuses on:

  • Helping young people learn about mental health and how to deal with key issues like stress, depression, anxiety, loss, and bereavement;
  • Providing practical tools and resources to support young people experiencing mental health challenges;
  • Breaking down stigma to support help-seeking behavior among young people and their communities.

Following the release in Spanish in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Chile, and Paraguay, the hub will launch in Portuguese in Brazil in July 2024. Further releases are anticipated throughout 2024.

Spotify Extends Existing Partnership With UNICEF and Donates to UNICEF’s Global Emergency Fund

Spotify is deeply saddened by the recent terrorist attacks in Israel and troubled by the growing catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Our hearts are with all of the people caught in the conflict. We acknowledge the important work of UNICEF and its partners, who are doing all they can to help the most affected children and their families.

In June, Spotify announced our three-year partnership with UNICEF to help ensure that young people, including refugees, displaced people, and migrants, can access evidence-based and engaging mental health audio content on Spotify. The initial partnership was focused on helping young people affected by the war in Ukraine, with a long-term goal to extend our work globally both in and outside of times of emergency.

We are extending this partnership for another two years to continue supporting UNICEF in reaching children and young people exposed to conflict and natural disasters by providing them with tools to promote mental health and well-being.

Spotify is also making a donation to UNICEF’s Global Emergency Fund to help UNICEF and its partners provide immediate humanitarian support—including medical supplies, fuel, mental health—and psychosocial support in response to the conflict.

Finally, we’re matching employee donations to support additional funds for UNICEF’s global humanitarian efforts. We hope that those in harm’s way find peace and safety soon.

Spotify and UNICEF Partner To Support Mental Health by Bringing the Power of Audio to Millions

At Spotify, we know that music and audio can help support mental health, so we’re dedicated to using the power of our platform to bring resources to people directly where they are. Today, we are embarking on a three-year partnership with UNICEF to help ensure that young people, including refugees, displaced people, and migrants, can access trusted and engaging mental health audio content.

To start, our focus will be on responding to the urgent mental health needs of young people who have been affected by the war in Ukraine. UNICEF has been supporting mental health and psychosocial support interventions for over 2.6 million Ukrainian children and caregivers since before 2022. Going forward, we’ll explore opportunities to expand our impact across other emergency and nonemergency contexts around the world.

“Our goal in partnering with UNICEF is to help young people, including refugees and migrants, find the support they need to optimize their mental health and well-being online and offline,” says Elizabeth Nieto, VP, Global Head of Equity and Impact at Spotify. “Our collaboration will particularly focus on harnessing the power of music, audio, and other innovative digital content to deliver trusted and engaging mental health content for young people, their caregivers, and communities.”

Evidence-based resources for mental health and well-being

Our partnership will kick off with the youth mental well-being destination Our Minds Matter on Spotify, where listeners will be able to access a combination of existing music and talk playlists. These engaging playlists can provide support for a wide range of mental health and well-being needs—and give young people resources right at their fingertips.

Understanding the everyday mental health needs of young people directly affected by the war in Ukraine is key to being able to support them. That is why UNICEF, with our support, has been collaborating with a group of Ukrainian and Polish youth to cocreate a new youth-informed, evidence-based mental health podcast called On My Mind. Season one will initially be available in Ukrainian, Polish, and English, with new languages coming online later.

From episodes on breaking down the stigma around mental health to nurturing healthy relationships, to coping with grief, stress, and loss, this co-created podcast will support tangible progress in improving access to mental health services and fostering a nurturing environment for young people.

Going forward, Spotify and UNICEF will work together to cocreate, adapt, digitize, and translate additional mental health content. We’ll also continue to curate new music and talk playlists that support mental health and well-being and can be featured on this platform.

The Sounds of UNICEF’s Giving Tuesday Snowflake Ball

For many, the holiday season can be a time of abundance. As we gather with family and friends to reflect on the past year, it’s also a great opportunity to give back to our communities. That’s why Spotify is teaming up with UNICEF USA to highlight Giving Tuesday and the annual Snowflake Ball, UNICEF’s largest event of the year. UNICEF is the world’s leading humanitarian organization for children, working in more than 190 countries and territories to help save and protect the world’s most vulnerable youth.

This has been a hard year for many children around the world. With a famine looming in Yemen, disasters crippling places like Indonesia, and a global refugee crisis sending millions on the move, UNICEF’s work has never been more important.

The Snowflake Ball, tonight in New York City, celebrates the humanitarian and charity efforts that UNICEF and its partners accomplish throughout the year by bringing together philanthropists and supporters from near and far. The gala coincides with Giving Tuesday, a national awareness day that encourages all Americans to give to charity at the start of the holiday season.

This year marks the 14th annual Snowflake Ball, which will be hosted by attorney and journalist Sunny Hostin. The event will feature a headline performance by Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow and a special performance by triple threat actor-comedian-singer Wayne Brady.

2018’s gala will honor drummer and former Beatle Ringo Starr with the George Harrison Humanitarian Award for his longtime commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes.

UNICEF USA supports UNICEF’s work through fundraising, advocacy, and education. This year’s goal is to raise $4 million, adding to the $34 million raised over the past 13 years.

To highlight UNICEF’s event and initiatives, we created a Giving Tuesday playlist, complete with plenty of Sheryl and Ringo, as well as other feel-good songs from the Beatles, P!nkBob Marley, and Sarah Bareilles. So as the holidays pick up and the year winds down, hit shuffle and take time to celebrate the season of giving.
