5 Reasons To Switch to Spotify Premium This Holiday Season

During the holidays, the right audio can add that perfect finishing touch to a white elephant gift swap or cookie decorating party. Curating the listening experience can be daunting, but with Spotify’s massive catalog of songs and podcasts to fit the mood and our new holiday offer, the ideal festive atmosphere is just a few taps away.

To help you keep the sounds running seamlessly, we are bringing back our annual Premium holiday offer, giving the gift of ad-free, skippable music to eligible Spotify Free and first-time listeners. Today through December 31, you can sign up and listen to favorites like “All I Want for Christmas Is You” on repeat for free and without any interruptions. Or, if you’re in the mood for a fresh holiday tune, skip around in the 2021 Spotify Singles: Holiday Collection to hear new seasonal music.

Did you get cold feet and cancel your plan before October 29 of this year? We’ve got a deal that will warm you right up. Spotify is offering users a chance to get back to Premium with three months for the price of one on the Individual plan.

If you need more convincing, here are five reasons to let Spotify help you listen ad free to all your wintertime favorites and much more.

1. It’s ad free.

Our favorite reason to join Spotify Premium is that you can enjoy your music without interruption. As much as we love getting ad-inspired ideas for our holiday wish lists, sometimes we want to get cozy by the fire and stream our favorite songs all day long.

2. You can switch to offline listening.

Whether you’re on a plane, train, sleigh ride, or grandma’s dial-up Internet, Spotify Premium lets you download and listen to all your music offline, so you don’t have to be connected to Wi-Fi or data to play your favorites.

3. Get instant access to 70 million tracks.

The only thing less fun than a holiday playlist interruption is a limit on the number of songs you’re allowed to skip. With Spotify Premium, all our music is available on demand. So if you’re hankering for a specific song on our Christmas Classics playlist, it’s ready to be queued up with just a tap. And if a family member hijacks your carefully curated queue, all it takes is a few skips to get the vibe back.

Plus, you can switch between your headphones, computer, or home speaker with just a few swipes. So no matter where the day takes you, listening never has to take a pause.

4. Premium might just be speaking your language and in your market.

This year, we’ve expanded to 44 new markets—from Uganda to Jamaica to Papua New Guinea—and added five new languages, including Romanian and Croatian. That brings the Spotify Premium count to 184 markets total. So now even more folks around the world can take part in uninterrupted streaming this season.

5. You have a month to take advantage of three months free!

Here’s the breakdown: from November 29 through December 31, 2021, eligible Spotify Free and first-time Spotify listeners can sign up for our Individual Premium plan for three months for free.

If you ended your Premium subscription recently and are having some regrets, no need to wait for the Ghost of Christmas Past. You can sign up again and have three months of ad-free music back for $9.99, or your local market equivalent. That’s just under $4 per month for Premium listening.

Ready for ad-free, on-demand, unlimited-skip music? Head to spotify.com/premium to sign up for your seamless holiday music-listening experience.

Premium users can enjoy ad-free, on-demand music for more than 50 million tracks, as well as access to our 1 million podcast titles. It’s a sweet deal, and it gets even sweeter: Beginning today, Spotify Premium is offering three months free across all plans to eligible first-time users, and three months for $9.99 (or local market equivalent) for eligible users who have cancelled and want to return. Now that’s a cherry on top.

Let’s break it down.

New users can get three months free

If you’ve been using Spotify Free, you already know some of the great podcasts and music Spotify has to offer. (And if you haven’t, there’s no time like the present.) Now imagine those same songs, albums, and music playlists on-demand and without ads. (Plus, unlimited skips and offline listening!) Spotify’s three-months-free offer is for eligible Spotify Free and first-time users across all Premium plans.

That means that if you’re just getting started with an Individual Premium account, you’re in for a treat. But you can also rack up the study playlists with a Student account, sign up for Duo with your significant other in the same household, or create an audio experience for the entire household with Family—one that includes Spotify Kids—as long as you’re in a market where these offers are available.

Returning users can get three months for $9.99

If you canceled your Individual Premium plan for one reason or another, no worries. You have another opportunity to get back to the audio content you love, with three months of Spotify Premium for just $9.99. That means paying less than $4 per month for the most popular audio streaming subscription service. This offer is available for individual Premium plan subscribers who cancelled their Premium plans on or before April 14, 2020.

Signing up for either offer is easy. Users in all markets except Japan* can visit Spotify.com/Premium today through June 30, 2020, to get on that Premium listening grind.

Spotify’s ‘Your Library’ Refresh: What You Need to Know

Starting today, we’re introducing a new version of Your Library to Premium users that mixes form with function. Everything about the reimagined Library is designed to get you to the content you want faster. It also makes getting started and staying up-to-date with podcasts on Spotify a seamless, personalized experience.

Right away, you’ll notice that Your Library is streamlined, and all it takes is a tap or swipe to toggle between new tabs for Podcasts and Music. Under each of those sections, you’ll see how quickly you can control and access the content you want.

Check out the video below to learn more, or scroll down for more in-depth explorations of the new Podcast and Music tabs.

Podcasts

Put simply, the new design gives you more control over your podcast listening experience, and quickly helps you discover new shows and episodes. You can manage your podcasts in three distinct sections: Episodes, Downloads, and Shows.

  • Episodes: The Episodes tab allows you to quickly find new episodes or resume podcasts you’re listening to, so picking up where you left off is a snap. And further down the list you’ll find newly released episodes of all the podcasts you follow. So, for example, the episode of The Rewind with Guy Raz that you paused yesterday will appear up top, followed by the new episode of Jemele Hill is Unbothered you’d been waiting for.
  • Downloads: This tab serves as your repository for the podcast episodes you’ve downloaded—so you can listen even when you’re offline.
  • Shows: The new Shows tab allows you to quickly manage the podcasts you follow and explore their past episodes. The higher up a podcast appears on your list in this section, the more recently a new episode became available.

Music

First things first: All your music is still here. And we’ve made finding and accessing the content you want even faster. A tap on the Music tab automatically drops you into your Playlists section, and the artists you follow and albums you’ve saved are just a swipe away. Pull down to quickly search, sort, and filter in any way you’d like.

  • Playlists: All the playlists you’ve previously liked or made are here, plus a new one: Liked Songs. Every time you <3 a song it’s added to this playlist, and you can now quickly download all its content at once for offline listening. When you’re offline, we’ll also automatically sort your playlists to show you the ones you have downloaded and available.
  • Artists: This section is just what it sounds like: a true representation of the artists you follow. To add an artist to this section, tap the “follow” button on the artist’s page.
  • Albums: If you tap the heart icon on any album, you’ll find it’s saved to this section for quick listening in the future. To save all the songs to your Liked Songs playlist, tap the “…” menu and select “Like all songs.”

From podcasts to music, the refreshed Spotify will help you manage and access all your audio content in a more personalized, streamlined manner.

4 Questions (and Answers) with Chief Premium Business Officer Alex Norström About Spotify Premium for Students

It’s back-to-school season. For some, that means new backpacks, notebooks, pencils, and pens. It also means an upgraded version of Spotify Premium for Students. Now, in addition to Spotify Premium’s millions of songs and podcasts and Hulu’s hours of next-day entertainment content, student subscribers will also have access to SHOWTIME’s full suite of premium storytelling content.

So whether you study to music or the sounds of silence, write essays on the difference between Hulu’s Emmy award-winning series The Handmaid’s Taleand Margaret Atwood’s novel, or unwind with SHOWTIME’s Shameless, there’s something for every student to stream.

We sat down with Alex Norström, Chief Premium Business Officer, Spotify, to learn a little more about the partnership.

Q: Spotify Premium already has a student plan. What’s new in this bundle?

A: Until now, our Premium for Students subscription included Spotify Premium and Hulu for only $4.99 a month. Yet we saw that it was widely successful with students, so we sought a way to offer them even more. That’s how we decided to add the SHOWTIME streaming service to our Spotify Premium for Students plan at no additional cost. We’re talking about original series, films, documentaries, sports, and more for the same low price. That’s helping U.S. college students access more premium content than ever—a “stream come true.”

Q: What is Spotify Premium trying to achieve with this change?

A: We realized that there are certain users who aren’t prepared to pay for just a music service, for a variety of reasons. We want to create a meaningful relationship with these potential users, many of whom are younger. But we also found that, when this music service, Spotify Premium, is enriched with other services, like Hulu and SHOWTIME, users are prepared and even willing to pay. Bundling, or providing multiple services in one, lets us increase the value of our Spotify Premium for Students plan beyond our core audio offering.

Additionally, we are always looking for partners and opportunities that share and show our values. Working with others has shown to help drive growth, which in turn allows us to improve our margins, attract new users, and improve retention and user satisfaction of the Premium subscription. It’s good for us, and it allows us to provide unparalleled content for our users.

Our current partnership with Hulu has been an overwhelming success for both of us. Originally, it was a creative way to add value back to our Premium subscribers. Now, our focus is on the long-term relationship with each subscriber. If we do the right thing, they reward us with loyalty. In turn, we innovate more for them.

Q: Why should students be excited?

A: Spotify Premium for Students, now with both Hulu and SHOWTIME, gives college students unprecedented, on-demand access to a complete world of music and video content, shows and film—all in one convenient package. This latest offer for U.S. students—both the millions already on Spotify Premium and those who are new—really is huge. Never before have students had this level of streaming entertainment options, at this unprecedented value, all in one package.

Q: How has response to the announcement been so far?

A: We’re excited to report that we have seen consistently positive responses, both internally and externally. The initial feedback has been promising, which suggests that students are really receptive to the plan. I enjoy the conversation on Twitter, where some students have called Spotify “undefeated.” It shows that we’re committed to providing them with even more content to love.

It doesn’t matter if you’re already a Spotify Premium for Students user or are new to the class: sign up and start streaming Spotify Premium, Hulu, and SHOWTIME at spotify.com/student.

Spotify Premium for Students: Now with Hulu and SHOWTIME

With back to school season upon us, students are stocking up on all they need to thrive at school. Though they may have busy schedules and tight budgets, they still want to keep up with their favorite shows and music. That’s why today, we’re announcing an upgraded Spotify Premium for Students plan, and giving students unrivaled access to world-class content for one low price.

Our current Spotify Premium for Students plan offers unlimited and on-demand access to all of our music and podcasts for $4.99, as well as a subscription to Hulu’s streaming library of current and fan-favorite TV and movie hits. Today we’re adding SHOWTIME to the plan, to let students enjoy even more award-winning, top-rated programming – all at the same low price and with the simplicity of one single bill. How’s that for an A+?

With the addition to the Spotify Premium for Students plan, students will have unlimited access to thousands of hours of SHOWTIME’s premium entertainment content. The shows run the gamut from original TV series – including Emmy® nominated Shameless, seven-season strong Homeland, Sacha Baron-Cohen’s Who Is America, Lena Waithe’s much anticipated The Chi, the upcoming comedy series Kidding starring Jim Carrey, and the semi-autobiographical SMILF, as well as Billions, Ray Donovan, The Affair, and Twin Peaks.

SHOWTIME’s library also includes blockbuster movies such as Girl on the Train and Baby Driver, in addition to live telecasts, music, comedy and political shows and documentaries, and sports programming, including SHOWTIME Championship Boxing. Spotify Premium for Students subscribers with SHOWTIME will also have access to the live telecast of the network’s East and West Coast feeds, as well as commercial-free access to all their shows, whether they’re watching on-demand or downloading for later.

Student Premium subscribers can of course already enjoy Hulu’s library of acclaimed Original Series, includes Emmy® and Golden Globe Award-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale, The Looming Tower, Marvel’s Runaways and Castle Rock; as well as current-season television like This is Us and Rick & Morty, hit movies and exclusive library series, including Family Guy, Lost, ER and more.

Spotify Premium has just changed the content game for students. By joining forces with SHOWTIME and continuing our relationship with Hulu, Spotify Premium is now able to give students a complete world of music and video content, shows and film. This latest offer for U.S. students—both the millions already on Spotify Premium and those who are new—really is huge. Never before have students had this level of streaming entertainment options, at this unprecedented value, all in one package.

Alex Norström, Chief Premium Officer, Spotify

In order to sign up, students should go to spotify.com/student. The updated plan—which includes Spotify Premium, Hulu, and SHOWTIME—is still only $4.99 per month. You don’t have to be a math major to see how that one adds up.

Existing Spotify Premium for Students subscribers should upgrade their plan to include both Hulu and SHOWTIME at no additional cost. And because we know students have plenty of other things they want to spend their money on—textbooks, for example 😉 —we’re offering the service to new subscribers for just $0.99 for the first three months.

Like all good students, you probably have some questions about the nitty gritty. Now’s the time to study up.

1. Can I get this offer if I am not already a Spotify Premium for Students subscriber?

Absolutely. You can easily sign up for the Spotify Premium for Students Plan at spotify.com/student.

2. If I already have the Spotify Premium for Students with Hulu plan, how do I get Showtime?

You’ll have immediate access to SHOWTIME as a pre-existing Spotify Premium for Student user. Simply upgrade your account and activate SHOWTIME at www.spotify.com/student.

3. How do I know if I’m eligible?

All U.S. college students enrolled at Title IV accredited institutions are eligible to participate.

4. If I have SHOWTIME or Hulu already, can I pair them?

You will not be able to pair an existing SHOWTIME or Hulu account and your Spotify Premium for Students plan. To access SHOWTIME or Hulu through the Spotify Premium plan, cancel your current SHOWTIME or Hulu subscription and then sign up for Spotify Premium for Students.

5. Do I get one login/username for all three apps?

You will need to set up three separate accounts, one for each service.

6. What devices can I use?

No matter how, where, or when you stream, Spotify, SHOWTIME, and Hulu are available on their respective apps across all your devices—TV, tablet, phone, and computer.

Excited to go back to school? We are too.
