Set the Mood on Valentine’s Day With a Playlist Curated by Michael Bublé, a Blend With Your Soulmate, or the Top-Streamed Love Songs

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and chocolates and flowers aren’t the only things that should be top of mind. What music will you have queued up for the drive to dinner? What’s the perfect soundtrack for a little at-home slow dancing? We have some suggestions on how lovebirds can get in on the musical fun together.

We Blend together

When it comes to music, are you and your significant other “two peas in a pod,” or more “opposites attract”? Spotify’s Blend feature can help you celebrate whatever mix-and-match music style you share.

Start by heading over to Your Library, tap the “+,” and hit “Blend.” Then you can invite your friend, lover, or crush to join the fun. Once they accept, you’ll unlock a shared playlist and a personalized taste match score to compare your listening preferences. From “Relationship Rising” to “Off the Charts,” you can share your score (and love) loudly and proudly with friends on social media.

If there’s not a special someone in your life right now, you can still get in on the Blend fun by creating a unique playlist with your favorite artist crush, like BTS, Megan Thee Stallion, Lizzo, The Chainsmokers, Post Malone, and Charli XCX.

Two New German Spotify Original Podcasts Are Taking On Marriage—One Before and One After Saying ‘I Do’

From rom-com meet-cutes to tailored playlist exchanges, there’s a lot to love about love. Two new German Spotify Original podcasts are ready to bring their take on relationships, but from two different vantage points: One podcast follows a couple’s journey before saying “I do,” while the other takes a look at newlywed life.

First up, the before. While a wedding is often one of the most memorable days in a couple’s life, planning the event is often more stressful than blissful. So Laura Larsson, cohost of the popular show Herrengedeck, decided to document her lead-up to the altar in her new podcast Erstmal für immer. In the 10-episode series, she gives the audience an open and honest look at preparations for her wedding to her fiancé, Nils. “My favorite part of creating the show was talking to Nils,” explains Laura. “In our recordings together, I felt like I got to know a lot of new things about both him and us.” From the proposal to the walk down the aisle, listeners will follow the bride-to-be through the highs and lows of her entire planning process. Laura isn’t sparing any details. As she explains it, you can expect the journey to be “chaotic and emotional, but also quite beautiful.”

And when it comes to life after the vows? German comedians Hazel Brugger and Thomas Spitzer chronicle what happens next on their podcast Nur verheiratet mit Hazel & Thomas. After keeping their marriage a secret from the public for months, Hazel and Thomas give listeners a glimpse into their relationship, one date at a time. Over 17 episodes, the series lets listeners eavesdrop on the couple as they handle their marriage “firsts,” and learn what it’s like to date each other again.

Whether you’re recently engaged or a few anniversaries in, get a dose of relationship chatter with the Erstmal für immer and Nur verheiratet mit Hazel & Thomas podcasts, available now exclusively on Spotify.

10 Tinder Anthems, Love Songs, and Relationship Podcasts to Turn the Volume Up This Valentine’s Day

When it comes to dating and relationships, audio is powerful. The right music at the right moment can truly set the mood, and a shared interest in a podcast can start a deep conversation. Connecting over a mutual affinity for a band, song, or podcast—or introducing your new sweetheart to something you think they’ll love—can unite people in a deep, personal way. So just in time for Valentine’s Day, Spotify and Tinder rounded up some of the top tracks and podcasts that speak most to finding a match. Read on to fall in love . . . with a new song or relationship podcast, at least.

It’s a music match

Tinder found that adding an “anthem” to your dating profile improves your swiping experience, leading to more matches. Since music is the number one “Passion” that members include on their profiles globally, adding an anthem may just be the best way to spark a conversation in time for a virtual Valentine’s Day date. Check out the top 10 anthems found on Tinder member profiles and decide if you’d swipe right on these songs:

And the music doesn’t stop there. Sometimes a good playlist is all you need to get ready for a virtual Tinder date, play in the background of a Galentine’s Day videochat catch-up, or set the mood for a candlelit dinner at home. But audio as a whole—not just music—can also speak to the feelings of the heart. As people overwhelmingly want dating and relationship advice, Spotify saw an increase of 64% of U.S. listeners streaming love-themed podcasts compared to this time last year. If you’ve been on a series of bad dates or dealt with an awful break-up, tune in to hear stories detailing what others have gone through in their journeys to find love. Celebration Expert Darcy Miller Shares Her Tips and Songs For Valentine’s Day

When it comes to Valentine’s Day, celebration expert, best-selling author and illustrator of Celebrate Everything!, as well as editor-at-large of Martha Stewart Weddings Darcy Miller knows how important music is when setting the mood. That’s why she curated a special Spotify Valentine’s Mix you’re bound to love.

Whether you’re celebrating this Valentine’s Day with a loved one, friend, family, or yourself, “It always comes down to doing what’s personal—no matter who you’re celebrating,” Darcy said to For the Record. “It comes down to doing what feels right.” Read on for Darcy’s tips to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

There’s so much variety in your Valentine’s Mix playlist for our listeners. Can you share the thinking behind the songs that you chose?

I just wanted a really fun mix of songs with a wide range of moods and tempos, so there’s something for everyone. I wanted it to be songs that I love . . . including some timeless ones from Ella Fitzgerald and some pop-y ones from ABBA and  Elton John. And I included what I think is the most classic love song, because it’s the song I fell in love to, “The Way You Look Tonight,” by Steve Tyrell.

What is it about Steve Tyrell’s “The Way You Look Tonight” that you love most?

My husband and I kind of fell in love to that soundtrack. When we got engaged, he had that song playing in the background. And when my husband and I got married, I actually reached out to Steve, and we started a friendship, and he sang the song at our wedding. I also interviewed Steve for a segment on The Martha Stewart Show where we talked about his standards and of course he sang, The Way You Look Tonight; so it’s like all of the pieces coming together.

Speaking of your wedding, I understand that you were set up by your boss (Martha Stewart). If you had to describe that scenario with a song, what would it be?

On a very obvious level, I guess the song would be “Matchmaker,” from the show Fiddler on the Roof.

What advice do you have when it comes to making the most out of Valentine’s Day?

I have a tradition of making Valentines and giving them to our friends, which is what we did with the chocolate cassette tapes this year that featured my Spotify mix. On my Instagram and website, we’re always trying to inspire people with ideas. It could be as simple as just taking a little note, kissing it, and leaving it for someone special. I just think it always comes down to who you’re celebrating.

When planning non-Valentine’s Day-related events, what are your tips for setting the mood with music?

I would say, like any party, you first want to think about what you’re trying to accomplish. So, what’s the setting? What’s the mood? There’s obviously a difference between a small dinner party or a daytime bridal shower versus a sit-down dinner party. And I would say that once you figure out the mood and think about who is there, again, thinking about what kind of music is important. Music is such a big part of celebrating and life, and it’s music that’s connected to so many experiences; the way you hear songs, and the way it reminds you of things. For any party, I always say, music is really important to set the tone.

I always like to have a good mix of music that people recognize, along with some surprises that they might not know—and something that’s personal to you that makes it yours. I always tell this to brides who are planning weddings: Take the time to pick the right DJ or band—because the music will set the tone. A lot of times people are thinking about the visuals first, like the flowers and the food, but I always say don’t overlook the music.

Spotify Reveals ‘Legendary’ Top Love Song Ahead of Valentine’s Day

With more than 1.1 billion streams on Spotify to date, John Legend’s hit song, “All of Me” may just be the ultimate romantic legend. Streaming has shown that it’s the top song for lovers on Spotify, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

“I hear from so many people that they’ve used it to propose, to walk down the aisle, and to celebrate milestones,” Legend told For the Record. “Thank you all for making me a part of your most memorable moments.”

So, how do we define the top love song on Spotify? By the listeners, of course. Check out the data that shows the mind-blowing popularity of this track:

  • “All of Me” is the most-added song in love-themed playlists. Spotify listeners have created more than 75 million playlists with the word love in the title.
  • The track is also the top song choice for both men and women on playlists titled “Valentine’s Day.”
  • “All of Me” has been added to more than 29 million playlists.
  • Since its release in 2013, streams of the track have spiked by at least 50% every year on Valentine’s Day (the most notable spike was in 2017 with an 85% increase in streams).

“The impact of ‘All of Me’ continues to amaze and inspire me,” Legend said. “I’m so honored to know we created something that has meant so much to so many people. I wrote this song to express how I felt to the woman I love as we were about to commit to a lifetime together. But often the best songs are able to express something in a way that is both personal and universal. I’m grateful to know that lovers around the world have connected with this song and made it their own.”

Spotify fans simply can’t get enough of People’s 2019 “Sexiest Man Alive” and his new single, “Conversations in the Dark,” which has already seen more than 10 million streams on Spotify since its release last month. And according to John, the track has wife Chrissy Teigen’s stamp of approval: “Chrissy has even said it’s her favorite song of mine since ‘All of Me,’ and that’s pretty high praise from her!”

“‘Conversations’ is about those little intimate, magical moments that loved ones share and the commitment to protect each other’s heart,” Legend added. “I’m excited to see the journey that this song will take. It has only been out for a few weeks, but I’ve already seen so many passionate, emotional reactions to ‘Conversations in the Dark.’”

And clearly music makes for the best romantic gift on Valentine’s Day. We’ve seen a growing trend with listeners choosing to share their Valentine’s Day playlists with their special someone on Spotify. Last year, Valentine’s Day playlists were gifted (aka shared) almost twice as much on February 14 compared to 2018.

As for what John and Chrissy have planned this February 14, Legend has something special in the works. “Chrissy and I do have Valentine’s Day plans,” Legend said. “We’ll get away from the kids for a night, go up to Napa Valley and visit one of our favorite restaurants. I’m looking forward to it!”

If you need inspiration for what to add to your romantic playlist, look no further than Legend’s catalog on Spotify: This Is John Legend. Also check out Love Pop, Spotify’s most-followed playlist of love songs.
